The Animal Health Company is sponsoring a new Agility competition in 2014 that might get you or your dog wet!  The Animal Health Company Classic will welcome all sizes of Agility dogs in a Steeplechase-style course that features the Westcotts Water Jump!

It was a nail biting week leading up to the Animal Health Company Classic Final, keeping an 'eye' on the predicted weather as the tail end of hurricane Gonzalo was heading our way. Fortunately the day dawned fairly bright, dry and breezy.

The brief for both classes was to use a variety of obstacles including the Westcott's Water Jump, creating courses suitable for all heights of dogs in Grades 3-6 and, therefore, in addition to the water jump, the well and wall were included. The Invitation Jumping class was to also include weaves. My own brief to myself was to create a course which could be appreciated by the general public spectators at The Robin Hood Game & Country Fair and to show off the fun and skill of the finalists.

All heights were competing against each other and the running order for the warm-up round in the morning was to be Large, Medium and then Small dogs. After all the Large dogs had run, Mandy Melville-Love and Keeva were in the lead, closely followed by Lorna Goodban and Bex. What could the Mediums do?  Lisa Gantly and Cloudtenn Kaleidoscope had the answer - a stunning run to take the lead by over two seconds. Okay so what about the Smalls?  Janice Harris with her very fast black Cocker Spaniel had a great run, but lost time on a couple of wide turns. Ray Amps with his terrier were on target for a superb time, but then they unfortunately took Jump 12 instead of 13, resulting in an elimination. The last to go was Bonny Quick and Shelley – a super round but not quite fast enough to beat Lisa so they went into 2nd place just 2/100’s of a second behind.

The brief for the Animal Health Company Classic Final was similar to the Invitation Jumping but minus the weaves. The course needed to be fast and flowing, whilst still giving handlers a chance to get to places. The running order was to be Small, Medium and then Large dogs.

Bonny Quick and Shelley again did a superb run, with tight, fast turns and went into the lead. Ray Amps was determined to improve on his earlier run, which the partnership did all the way!  Into 2nd they went, just 0.7 seconds behind Bonny. Could Lisa Gantly's Medium do the double? It was a superb start, but Lisa just couldn't hold on to her and it wasn't to be.

By the time the Large dogs started, the dreaded wind had really picked up, creating a problem with the wall. Luke Taylor and a very kind gentleman from Wales kept rebuilding it every time the bricks blew off. This did provide some extra entertainment for the spectators and competitors.

Valiant attempts were made to try and beat Bonny and Shelley, but to no avail. The closest was Emma Haines with Diagemtas Dexter with a lovely smooth run, putting her in 3rd whilst Lorna Goodban with Bex also had a lovely run, showing their consistency by gaining another 4th place.  There was great camaraderie and good humour amongst the competitors with many creditable performances, making it altogether a very enjoyable final to judge.

The Animal Health Company has a £25 donation to make to the favourite charity of the the winner of the competition who can name the most correct names of those in the picture. In case of a tie, the £25 is splitable. Adjudicators decision is final.

To start you off, one name you will need is Championship Agility Judge Lynne Shore who officiated at the Animal Health Company Classic Final 2014.

Heat 10
 Blenheim ADTC

Some 270 competitors decided it was worthwhile to see if they could secure a final qualifying place at the last of the 10 heats of the 2014 Animal Health Co Agility Challenge. With so much interest Animal Health decided to increase the qualifiers here by 100% by inviting the top 10 to the final.

Judge Steph Thomas set the course in bright West Midlands Showground sunshine, using all the Ws - wall, wishing well and Westcott's water Jump.

Ann Hinze, all the way from Germany, won this and other classes at the show and very much hopes to attend the Final.


As ever, you can't keep Collies out of water and the judge said definitely 5 faults.

Dog Vegas

Is it true that everyone goes to Vegas?

Well, The Animal Health Company Classic did to find some more winners to join those already qualified for the popular Animal Health Company Classic Final on Sunday, 19 October at the Robin Hood Country Show.

Heat 9 took place at  the Dog Vegas show at Winterton. Judge Nigel Staines laid a great course which seemed to find real favour with Dog Vegas organiser Jackie Kenny who found the time to win the class!

Heat 8
Pembrokeshire By The Pond

Heat 8 of the Animal Health Co Classic, judged by Iain McDonald, took place at the Pembrokeshire By The Pond show as far west as Agility goes on Mainland UK. Many a partnership benefitted from the great weather, going on to win a coveted Dragon or two.

As heat winner Ann Button and Third Tri Lucky had already qualified for the AHC Final at Dogs Unleashed, 5th placed winner Frances Cobb was delighted to learn that she and her dog Stillmoor Jazz Cadenza will be invited to join all the finalists at the Animal Health Company Classic Final on Sunday, 19 October at the Robin Hood Country Show.

Welsh Kennel Club Championship Show

Bonny Quick had a pretty good day on Saturday 16 August at The Welsh Kennel Club Championship & Open Agility Show. Not only did she win the Large Championship class with Goldheart Trial of Flames but earlier in the day, this partnership also won Heat 7 of The Animal Health Company Classic.

Judge Sara Kirkwood set a great course and whilst our show winners came from far and wide. It was great to see Welsh handlers featuring in the Animal Health line up who will join all our finalists at the Animal Health Company Classic Final on Sunday, 19 October at the Robin Hood Country Show.

 Empingham Premier Agility Show

Judge Malcolm Jones is a brave man. Not once but twice did he lay his course over The Westcotts Water Jump at Empingham's Premier Show last month. Despite the real threat of enough rain to flood the ring, hardly a drop materialised and organisers must have been much relieved. And amazingly there was not a black and white amongst the winners.

 Just Dogs Live

The search for the winner of The Animal Health Co Class moved eastwards to Just Dogs Live with more than 150 dogs looking for qualify in Heat 5 for the Finals. Judge Chris Jenkins set a flowing course.  In warm summer sunshine only one dog stopped for a Westcotts Water Jump drink!

The Agility finale at Dogs Unleashed in the heart of the Peak District was Heat 4 of The Animal Health Company Classic.  It attracted an enthusiastic crowd who enjoyed the fine weather and a great range of Dog activities over a busy weekend. Officiating for the second time at a heat was Judge Hannah Grantham who laid a great course,  Joining our winners to present the awards was Paul Westcott MD of The Animal Health Company.

North Derbyshire ATC hosted Heat 3 of The Animal Health Company Classic in brilliant sunshine earlier in the month. As ever, Osmaston provided judge Hannah Grantham with a great backdrop for her course which definitely did not suit tunnel happy dogs

PADS / Heart of England

Heat 2 of The Animal Health Company Classic took place on the banks of the Trent at Catton Hall. Despite the venue being very soft in places, the ring areas held up really well allowing organisers to run the classes as planned in unexpectedly fine weather. Just ½ a second separated our five qualifiers today.

Hatton Agility Festival

 

The flags were out for the first heat of the Animal Health Company Classic, judged by Steve Retter, at Hatton Agility Festival recently. With 10 heats,  the competition is open to every size of G3 – 6 dog.  Unique to the Animal Health Company Classic competition is the Westcotts Water Jump which, despite some pre-class handler trepidation caused no issue to any dog in the judge's attractive course.

The winner of the Heat 1 was Emma Haines with Diagemtas Dexter. This partnership is no stranger to success as Dexter continues to delight Emma with win after win.

 New Qualifier Announced

With ten qualifiers around the country, everyone will have the opportunity to take part in something different in 2014.

The The Agility Health Co Classic 2014 Final will take place in the Main Arena at the Newark Robin Hood Game & Country Show on 19 October, under the watchful gaze of Championship Agility Judge Lynne Shore. With some 23,000 people expected to attend the show,  it will be a great venue to showcase agility talent.
