Graham Taylor
launched the Brillo International Bounce in 2013 especially for Small and Medium dogs. It was named after a small dog he used to have
- and yes, his KC name was Brillo
Pad. The competition consists of 11 heats with three handlers qualifying from each.
The class must be
judged using current Kennel Club rules and each host venue will chose which grades are included
for each size of Brillo International Bounce qualifier.
The Grand Final Agility has had many sponsored competitions over the years, most of them taking on a traditional theme based on the standard agility class that aims to promote the sponsor. Congratulations must go to the clubs and show organisers that have supported this unique competition across the country for taking it back to basics and being all that is good about Agility when it first started out. The Brillo International Bounce competition is for Small and Medium dogs Grades 1-7. Numerous heats around the country had resulted in 30 Small dogs and 30 Medium dogs being invited to the Blenheim ADTC show in Shrewsbury to contest in their height categories and produce a Small and Medium Brillo International Bounce winner. Where the Brillo Final differs from other finals is that it has a preliminary round of standard agility, followed by a normal jumping class. A double clear in both Agility and Jumping would guarantee a place in the Grand Final which would be another Jumping round. Consequently neither speed nor placings were the overriding requirement for the first part of the competition. The final would be a different matter though with normal service being resumed and the fastest clear being the winner. The organisers had previously decided that a minimum of 10 dogs would contest each height category and that, if there weren't 10 double clears, then the dogs with the least number of faults would make the numbers up and join the double clear qualifiers in the Finals. With the requirement to ideally have 10 dogs in each Final and the possibility that there could be a range of dogs from Grade 1-7 competing, I pondered long and hard on what type of courses to build. My experience told me that it is difficult to put together two clear rounds back to back especially in the pressure environment of a final, so I decided on two qualifying rounds with plenty of handler movements to make things interesting but no major traps, pull throughs or round the backs etc. Hopefully interesting enough for both competitors and spectators to enjoy I believe that I achieved my goal with 10 Medium double clears making the final, and five Small double clears plus five very fast 5 faults. Most of those dogs had faults were due to a missed dog walk contact. The final Jumping round was made more difficult by numerous options for handling technique, but was still fairly simple. What I was aiming for was two winning dogs which were both fast and controlled at speed and a course that would give the spectators something to cheer about. Neither Small and Medium dogs let me down. Each category was very fiercely contested with some cracking rounds and some very near winners. One or two of them, I am sure, are destined for a very bright future. As to be expected, however, the qualities that make a dog an Agility Champion shone through in the end with both the winners showing the ability to hold it all together under pressure. Selina Bray and her Ag.Ch, Champion Shanandi One & Only, winner of the Small category, and Amanda Hampson and Ag.Ch. Shoredancer Sea Jade, winner of the Mediums, were well deserved winners with, in my opinion, perfectly handled rounds. I had a thoroughly enjoyable day judging at a lovely show with some amazing dogs and handlers. I can't thank the clubs and show organisers enough for their efforts. My thanks also go to Stone's Snack Bars who gave every competitor a little something to take home along with their finalist rosette makes the day even more enjoyable. I would encourage all you Medium and Small handlers out there to mark the Brillo International Bounce Qualifiers in your 2015 diary. 2014 Qualifiers

Brillo International Bounce Heats Announced
It's official. The new 2013 Brillo International Bounce is going ahead. Two competitions for Small and Medium dogs of eleven heats each have been announced, including three on 'Super Saturday', 1 June 2013. A prize money Final will take place at Blenheim ATC Agility Show Weekend at West Midlands Showground, Shrewsbury on Saturday, 7 September 2013, and it will judged by Mandy Melville-Love, according to current Kennel Club rules.
Each heat will be a single class - either Agility or Jumping. The host club can choose whichever type they want for whatever grades they want.
Because of this, the Final will consist of two rounds - one Agility and one Jumping, neither of which will be timed (max time specified). Double clears will go forward for a jump off against the clock for the top prizes at each height and a share of the £50 prize money.
