Lucky dogs
The
fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs
have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear
anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 14 dogs found new homes, many of them
going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.
Dogs are featured in alphabetical
order.

THE B PUPS
History:
Bonnie, our pups mum, was given up to us by a farmer as she had no interest in sheep!
Description:
These are absolutely lovely puppies with lots of energy. I feel these would make amazing
agility or flyball dogs!
Rehoming
criteria:
These
pups would need a very active home, and would love a job to do! The
pups have had an ideal start. They've all been cuddled and adored in a busy family
environment. The pups are all playful, confident, very cuddly
and they all come running when we walk into the room! So, take your heart in your hands
and find out who would be your perfect Valentine...

Cole has found a
home with a lady who is currently on holiday, but she will be taking home shortly.
(15/03/10) |
COLE
History:
I have had Cole since he was six months old and he is a much loved member of our family.
Due to work changes, we just don't have the time to offer him the time or stimulation a
clever boy like him needs. He can be very aggressive if couriers/strangers come to the
door, so we lock him away before opening the door as he goes berserk. He has in the past
nipped/bitten several people - not to kill but has drawn blood. The only advice I have
had from rehoming centers is that he should be PTS, although
I sort of expected this. He is like my third child and I was devastated to hear this. I
do believe that a realistic devoted person can turn him around and in effect save Cole's
life. Therefore, I am looking for someone who can offer Cole a new home where perhaps
someone has the time to give him behaviour training and
really work with him.
With two tots I feel I have no option but to find a new home for him.
Description: Apart from this he is the most
gorgeous dog as my family and friends can attest to. It's just people he does not know
that he dislikes. Cole has huge ears
and grey, cream, brown coat, he is fine with dogs and has
lived with another happily. He is very clever and knows boundaries
e.g. not to step into some rooms. He loves cuddles and playing and is very, very
affectionate. He pulls a bit on the lead, but I use a halti
on him. He loves running about in open spaces and going on walks. He doesn’t tire easily!
Rehoming
criteria: I
would love somebody who can give him regular exercise to use up his energy and stimulate
him. He would also need an environment where he will be well loved as he is super
affectionate. Needs someone who can train him regarding his aggression and appreciates
the extra care that must be taken at this stage regarding visitors etc and focus his mind
on more positive games.

GEORGE
History: George
is 2 1/2 and has been in 2 homes, albeit it briefly. He was bought as a pup
and kept until the
new owners gave him up when they had a baby. He was good with the baby but they just
couldn’t put the time - or effort - in for him. He was placed with a couple who had a
seven year old bitch whom he loved, but it turned out that he was too active for her and
was upsetting the household as he would constantly badger the older dog to play and she
wasn't interested. She then started going for him when he did this and owners felt it
wasn't fair to the existing dog.
Description: George
is a large Staffordshire Bull Terrier, brindle with white flash on chest area. He is an
active boy, who loves to be out and would play all day given the chance. He gets on great
with all dogs he meets as again just wants to play..
Rehoming criteria: We
are looking for a home for George where there is someone home most of the time as, we
feel, he does need this. However, he may be perfectly happy if rehomed with another
similarly active dog or with someone who works a few hours etc.
Child
friendly: Yes,
he proved himself good round the baby. However he is quite boisterous (through excitement
rather than malice) so would probably be best rehomed with slightly older children.
Able
to live with cats: We
feel with training he may improve. His last home was with a cat who was quite old. Though
he constantly chased it, we think he wanted to play rather than hurt it. Preferably no
cats but as mentioned could be trained to leave it.

Gilbert now
has a lovely new home, thanks to Agilitynet rescue page.
(22/03/10) |
GILBERT
History:
Gil was originally picked up as a stray, so no previous history is known about him. He
was very stressed in kennels so he is currently in a foster home.
Description: Gil
is a very handsome Beardie x possibly with a Border collie, due to his shape etc. Gil is
a very high drive dog and looks like a Beardie but his coat is not as long. He is very
loving with people, but lacks doggie skills with other dogs. He is not aggressive but
will chase other dogs and bowl them over, and also does the collie nipping when over
excited. We are currently working on this problem, but this will need to be continued in
his new home. Gil is very good at his basic commends; sit, wait, paw etc. He also walks
well on the lead.
Rehoming criteria:
Gil will need an
experienced owner, as he is not a first time dog. In the right hands he will be a very
lovely boy. He is very keen to please, but will need someone to carry on the work through
the problems he has with other dogs and distractions.

JACK
History
:
Jack came in as a stray at a local kennels and he was not claimed. Therefore they asked
us to foster and rehome him.
Description:
Jack is medium-coated Collie, mainly black with a white chest, white socks and a speckled
nose. He is a very affectionate dog and loves everyone, dogs and people. He is very food
orientated and has started to take an interest in playing with toys as well. He is very
quick to learn and he has had a couple of basic agility lessons already and he responded
very well.

Happy Ending:
Lotty has been snapped up by her perfect match - a lady who does agility and loves very
long walks. There is no road to worry Lotty so it looks like a very happy ending.
(29/03/10) |
LOTTY
History:
We bought
Lotty at eight weeks old as a family pet in the belief that
she was a Border Collie x
Labrador.
She is actually crossed with a Kelpie and as such, she is proving too much for our
family. She is a lovely dog but very scared of the road which makes it difficult for us
to walk her in built-up areas, and is not getting the exercise she needs.
Description:
Smaller than a collie, Lotty is black with white paws, highly intelligent,
extremely agile and very funny. Bags of energy, loves her ball! Great off lead, always
comes back, but can pull on the lead. After two terms of puppy training, she knows 'sit,
down, wait, stay, leave' etc. She runs like a bullet, jumps very high, can slither into
tiny spaces, two trainers have told us she would be ideal for agility but we don't have
the time to train her. Lotty
is quite independent and could probably live outside.
Rehoming
criteria: We feel she needs a job to do, such as agility or
flyball.

older children.

MINSTREL
History:
Minstrel has been our family pet for over five years. We originally rescued him at nine
months old. I then took him to obedience classes for 18
months and then agility classes for about a year. He absolutely loved agility, however
developed a fear of the see saw. The trainer did say this was something that could be
corrected though. However, we since stopped agility. I have since had a baby and although
I find this very upsetting, we do not feel we can give him the exercise that he needs.

Olly secured a home last night! (16/03/10) |
OLLY
History:Olly
was given up due to allergies as a pup. He then passed onto two more homes until I was
asked to foster him. Not sure of the details though apparently he went to 'nip' a child,
but I believe this was all in the space of a few weeks.
Description:
Olly is a sweet little boy, quite submissive and has not been socialised with other dogs
until I had him. He has been fine with every dog and bitch he has met in the house and
out walking. After a week he has learnt to give paws, sit and down, go into his bed when
asked. Though when we come home from a walk he settles down well for a nap!
He is toy motivated, responsive and
very quick to learn.
Rehoming criteria:
Olly needs an experienced home. He’s a fast dog running and very keen to be doing
something with someone who can provide an active home and loving home.
Child friendly:

Happy Ending: Sam has found a wonderful agility home
through Agilitynet with Layla Hudson who travelled nearly four hours to get him as she
fell in love with him on your pages. (30/03/10) |
SAM
History:
Sam was a rescue last year about to be PTS when I rehomed him. We had no previous history
as he was found as a stray and was never claimed. Unfortunately due to marriage
breakdown, I have only been able to take one dog with me to a rented property - Sam has
stayed with my husband but, due to work commitments, he now cannot offer him a home.
Description: He
is tri-colored JRT with a full tail and quite stocky. Sam has been training in agility
now since June last year and loves it. He is not scared of anything, very fast and
responding well to instruction. His only problem is other male dogs. Bitches fine, but
when training he is now concentrating so much that the other dogs do not worry him any
more. His recall is quite good. We lived on a farm and he is fine around all livestock,
sheep, chickens etc. At home, he is very loyal and would be totally devoted to the right
person. He is with you everywhere and prefers nothing better than to curl up to you on
the sofa. Has lived with three bitches and loved them to bits. He is already registered
on the Activity register.

much.

Description: He's a gorgeous tri-coloured

Socks has been rehomed. (03/03/10) |
SOCKS
History:
Socks came originally from Ireland with no history. He has received some training as a
sniffer dog but didn't quite make the grade so came back to us
for rehoming.
Description:
A pretty, lightly built, short coated black and white collie, Socks is very
bright and quick. He
likes treats and will work for them but his favourite are toys which he is very motivated
by them, so they make good training aids. He's picked up 'sit', 'down', 'bed' and 'find'
while with us and he's currently working on 'paw'. He has missed out on early socialisation
so sometimes spooks at unknown things but he's young and learns quickly so this should be
quick to overcome.
Rehoming
criteria:
He would be happier in a working type home so the challenge of agility would definitely
suit him.
Adopters can be anywhere in the country provided they are happy to travel. All members of

Happy Ending: Spring has now found a new home, not doing agility but
flyball. All going well. (13/03/10) |
SPRING
History:
No history as Spring was picked up as a stray.
Description:
Spring is a little brindle girl. She is very agile and has really taken to the agility
equipment. She is a complete blank canvas and knows nothing but is an amazingly quick
learner. She needs work with all basic training but if you want a dog
who is quick, she's your girl. Just starting on lead, she will fly over A frame,
dog walk, jumps and loves the table and tunnel, she is starting to get ball focused too.
Spring measures approx
17/18
inches so she may make a Medium dog. The first vet aged her at 6 months
and the next at 12 months so I guess she could get taller. But I think she could
be fully grown and more like 12 - 18 months as from standing still she can clear a 5 foot
fence, straight up and over! I am tempted to keep her and train her for a demo dog for
the children that come training. She has that something
special.

SPRING (AGAIN)
History:
Spring came into us from the local pound, so do not have any history.
Description:
Spring is a Collie x Dalmation puppy and he is deaf. His
photo doesn't do him justice, but it is hard to get him to sit still long enough for it
to be taken! He is happy and cheeky little puppy full of mischief. He is friendly with
people and dogs. Spring has some very mild food issues around dogs but nothing that
cannot be worked on.
Rehoming
criteria:
Spring is a bright, active little puppy and so needs a home that will give him plenty to
do. He would very quickly do self employed if not kept stimulated. His deafness causes
him no problems at all but advice will be given on training a deaf dog if wanted. A home
with another pre existing dog would be beneficial.
