Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 18 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

Happy Ending: All the pups have been rehomed.  (21/11/09)

BC SPOT PUPS

History: Mum came from Wales. She was already in whelp.
Description: The litter consisted of five gorgeous pups - 1 black and white bitch, 1 bitch who looks blue at the moment but we think may turn red and three super, plump merley boys.
Rehoming criteria: Working or pet.
Child friendly: Not tested, but probably yes.
Able to live with cats: Not tested.
Age: Born 30 September 2009.
Sex: Both
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: No
Micro-chipped: No
Flea sprayed & wormed: No
Cost: Donation
Where dog can be seen: Bracknell, Berkshire
(16/10/09)

Breed:
WSD

Contact: Ring Jo or Dave on tel. 01754 810462 or m. 07721 052880

Happy Ending: After much deliberation, Jo and Dave have decided to keep Benji themselves. He will enjoy both agility and obedience. (29/11/09)

BENJI

History: Benji was taken to our vets at four months old by the previous owners to be castrated as he was aggressive. At six months old, they took him back to have all his teeth taken out. Then they were going to muzzle him permanently. Upon their refusal, they wanted him put to sleep. The vets managed to get him signed over, and they phoned us to see if we could help.
Description: Benji is a smooth-coated, black and white collie with black spots on his nose and legs. He has very long legs and tail and has big ears. He was born in April 2009 on a farm. Since coming to us, he has become very confident in our surroundings but is unsure at the moment when you take him out of his comfort zone. He gets on very well with our dogs and loves to wrestle with them all the time. He loves people and being near you and loves tuggy, squeaky toys and retrieving. He has a great play growl which we think is why the previous owners who had no idea about dogs thought he was aggressive. We don’t think he had been in a house before and is not house trained, although he will now go to the toilet when asked to outside. He is active, clever, and desperate to please and doesn’t bark or get upset when left in his kennel.
Rehoming criteria: He needs a home where his energy can be channelled, so agility, obedience, flyball or heelwork to music would all fit the bill. He deserves a forever home where he is loved whether he is a super champ or a super chump. We think he would enjoy the company of other dogs if they want to play rough. In his short life he has had none of his needs met. References will be required, and we would want him back if the new owner couldn’t keep him for any reason.
Child friendly: Unknown.
Able to live with cats: Not tested
Age: 6 months
Sex: Dog
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes, including Kennel Cough
Micro-chipped: No
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: Donation to cover expenses incurred

Where dog can be seen:  Skegness, Lincs. He will also be at Dog Vegas and  Agility Nuts agility shows, and GSD Obedience show, Newark before Christmas if anyone would like to meet him. (04/11/09)

Happy Ending: Blake has been rehomed with help from Valgrays to a wonderful home on top of the South downs nr Brighton. (22/11/09)

BLAKE

History: Blake was found stray in Essex close to the M11/M25. The local council were informed and he was put on all the missing dog websites, but no owner was found. He has been staying with me and my dogs in the house for the last ten weeks. I did have a home lined up but sadly it fell through, not his fault. Blake now needs to find his forever home.
Description Blake is classic black and white collie. He is a good size and has a long coat that has thinned out a bit since he has been with me and had a good brush. Blake knew nothing when he arrived but has now picked up the basics. He still needs attention to his recall. He has been house trained and gets on well with my dogs. He is dominant with other entire males which would be resolved by castration. Blake is very fast and energetic; he loves balls and lives for attention, so I think he would make a fantastic agility and flyball dog. He has had a go over a few agility jumps and loved it. I know he is an older dog but but he has shown a great ability to learn and please so he should pick up agility quickly. He is very cuddly and loving.
Rehoming criteria: He must be homed to an active home as he is a lively boy. Although he is getting better off the lead, someone will need to spend time on his recall.

Happy Ending: Breeze has now been successfully rehomed to active, responsible Collie owners, although she is not likely to be doing agility, (29/11/09)

BREEZE

History: No prior history is available for Breeze as she was rescued from a pound. However, she was in good health and shows no indication of neglect or abuse so we suspect she just became too much of a handful for her ex-owner.
Description: A black Collie X, Breeze is active, affectionate very quick to learn and eager to please. Although Breeze can be excitable, she is responding well to basic training and is becoming much calmer and less distracted in a variety of situations. She is currently 16 -17 inches at the shoulder and could measure Medium.
Rehoming criteria: She is still very young and, while not a dog for a novice handler, could have great potential for someone looking for a small, slight dog to work as she moves like lightening.
Child friendly: Would not home with young children
Able to live with cats:  Not at this time
Age: About a 1 year

Happy Ending: Buzz has now been rehomed. (29/11/09)

BUZZ

History: Buzz was brought to us because of his owner's change of circumstances.                                                                                          Description: Buzz is a black and white, farm bred Border Collie. He is a little frightened of other dogs as he hadn't met any at al, until he was 12 weeks old. We would like a new home for him as soon as possible so his socialising can be continued with.
Rehoming criteria:  Ideally we want him to be re-homed in the North Yorkshire area as we will need to do a home visit. We would like an active home and preferably with someone who plans to do agility or flyball with him.

Happy Ending: Dylan has now been successfully rehomed to active, responsible Collie owners, although he is not likely to be doing agility, (29/11/09)

DYLAN

History: Dylan was bought back from a Welsh farm by his previous owner who was there on holiday. Having arrived home with him, she realised that she was in no position to meet his needs and had made a serious mistake. In order to limit any adverse consequences of this false start, Dylan was accepted into the Rescue Centre immediately, aged 20 weeks.
Description: Black and white WSD with just a little brown on his legs. Dylan is a highly intelligent, high energy male puppy. He missed out on some crucial socialisation and training in his first few months of life but this now is being addressed at the Rescue Centre. The staff here are delighted by how responsive and quick to learn he has been.
Rehoming criteria:  Dylan needs to find an experienced  owner already involved in the agility or flyball world so the training he requires continues seamlessly between rescue and home. An established dog in the home would probably be an advantage.
Child friendly: Has met children of all ages, friendly but excitable. We would not  wish to home Dylan with a family with young children
Able to live with cats:  Has lived with a cat , but might try to chase an unfamiliar cat
Age: DOB June 2009

Happy Ending: Harry and Potter have been successfully rehomed to a great new home. The boys went together to a lovely home in Scotland with many acres and lakes for them to play in - a fantastic dogs life. They were rehomed via the club rescue, but we did have many enquires via Agilitynet which is a fantastic resource.  (03/11/09)

HARRY & POTTER

History: The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Organisation rescue has just taken in two entire male Tollers, litter brothers who have been together since birth. There are no known issues with these dog. They have come into rescue because of family circumstances with their previous owner. They have already had two homes so their next home needs to be forever. They appear to have very sweet natures, are housetrained and do not have any issues with other dogs, children, or food. They cannot be separated as they love, and rely on, each other.
Description: Harry and Potter are two smashing male Tollers in good physical health and full of life. See photo.
Rehoming criteria: A good forever home where the two brothers can stay together. Please note, they will not be separated.

Happy Ending: Luke has been rehomed to an agility home in Bradford. Many thanks – had four people interested in him! (21/11/09)

JAKE

History: Jake was bought as a present, which predictably didn’t work out once he’d grown out of the tiny puppy phase. He’s a working dog straight off a sheep farm.  He’s been fostered with me for five weeks and is ready to go to an active home who will give him lots of jobs to do.
Description: Jake is a lithe, black and white, medium-coated collie. He will be large sized for agility. He’s as sharp as a razor, super-fast and very focussed. He likes both toys and food. His pack social skills are very good, but he is a very 'strong' dog and will likely want to move his way to the top so will need good leadership from his new owner. He can exhibit food possessiveness to other dogs if not supervised closely around food, but this problem is slowly diminishing.  He is used to being left for 3-4 hours, but would better suit a household where people are home most of the day.
Rehoming criteria: An active home where he will be taught many things such as agility, obedience and heelwork to music. He would be willing to work for you from dawn to dusk.
Child friendly:
Yes – but not babies/toddlers
Able to live with cats: Yes, if introduced properly

Happy Ending: Jess has done to another agility home. (29/11/09)

JESS

History: Jess was brought from a farm in Wales when she was 16 weeks old with the intention of training her for agility. Her owner's situation has now changed and they no longer have the time she needs.
Description: Jess is a black and white Welsh collie with spots on her front legs. She lives with two other dogs. She is beautiful, intelligent and a very quick learner. She is also very fast with lots of energy and very good with her recall. Due to her start on a farm, she has a few issues with toilet training but with time, love and patience she will soon get through this issue.
Rehoming criteria: Ideally an adult home or with older children. Jess has some basic training and would welcome somebody who has the time to take her training further.
Child friendly:
Yes, but older children as she can be bouncy!
Able to live with cats: She lives with 2 cats, but does have a tendency to chase them.
Age: 1 year old
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: Yes
Vaccinated: Yes
Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes
Cost: No charge, just want a good home for her.

OSCAR

History: We have had Oscar since he was eight weeks old, but are no longer able to keep him.
Description: Oscar is a five month old Tri colour, smooth-coated, blue eyed Collie. He is a lovely dog, who is at times 'overfriendly.'He has bundles of energy, so needs to be kept constantly occupied, if he gets bored he can become destructive.
Rehoming criteria:  Oscar needs to be with someone who can spend lots of time giving him the training and exercise that he really needs. We have young children and are finding him a real struggle and we are unfortunately unable to keep him.
Child friendly:
Yes but with older children.

PATCH

History: Patch was bought as a puppy from a farm in Wales but was too much for his family as inexperienced Border Collie owners. As a result he was fostered by a local dog behaviourist who took him to beginners flyball. He was recently transferred to Border Collie Trust for re-homing.
Description: Patch is a bright little dog with a very sweet nature. He lacks confidence with strange humans but is quick to trust after a little fuss and plays well with other dogs. RED OSCAR

History: Oscar was bought as a puppy from a farm in Wales. He lived  all his life with the same family and another dog. Unfortunately he developed some dog aggression issues when he was about 16 month old.  He was then neutered by the family, but they lost faith in him and themselves so they handed him over to the rescue.
Description: Oscar is a short haired, red and white collie with  pricked ears and athletic build. He is very eager to please, very  fast to learn and very, very toy driven. He lives now in a foster home with plenty other dogs and gets on ok with them. He hasn't shown any aggression when being walked and meeting other dogs, as he keeps to himself rather than to say hello. He is very quick to learn  and very obedient and loyal. He is absolutely toy mad. His fosterer let him have a go at some agility equipment and he took to it like a duck to water and worked his little socks off for his toy. He has a lot of drive and is very fast.
Rehoming
criteria: Oscar should go to a working home as he was pretty bored in his old home. They trained him well, but he has a lot more potential. He can be rehomed with other dogs, but preferably with confident dogs, who can tell him he cannot do as he likes. He needs an owner who will show him what is acceptable and what is not. In general he is an easy dog to have around.
Child friendly: Yes, lives with children at the moment.
Able to live with cats: He's only met one cat so far, but was scared of it.

Sex: Dog

He is bright, really wants to please and loves his ball.
