Lucky dogs

The fairy tale doesn't always end with the hero/heroine riding off into the sunset but these dogs have been given another chance. We don't always know where they go, but when we do hear anything, we will try to pass on the news. This month 14 dogs found new homes, many of them going to agility homes so watch out them on the show circuit.

Dogs are featured in alphabetical order.

Happy Ending: Bobbin has been rehomed to a family in Cambridgeshire. The mum and 10 year old daughter hope to do  agility with him.  (15/10/09)

BOBBIN

History: Bobbin was found as a stray in Southern Ireland at three months, kept in lost and found kennels in Ireland for six months. He is now being fostered.
Description: Bobbin is an adorable red and white medium-coated collie  although there may be a little of something else in there. When he arrived at his foster home from Ireland on 4 September, he was totally out of control and did circuits round the room over chairs and the dining table. He has now after only three days started to settle and is responding very quickly to basic training. We feel that he would excel at agility. He is affectionate and very eager to learn. He loves toys and food. He mixes very well with other dogs, is housetrained and does not have any problems from his bad start in life.
Rehoming criteria:  An active loving home.

Happy Ending: Chester has been successfully rehomed... so far! They had a few initial problems, but these have been sorted out so hopefully it will all be good for Chester from now on.   (15/10/09)

CHESTER

History: Chester originally came into the rescue centre because his owners were moving home. He was rehomed briefly but returned to us for being an energetic collie!
Description: Chester is a wonderful, good natured dog. He just has loads of energy. He gets on very well with all other dogs and is very social around people.  His recall is excellent and he works with a whistle and he adores a ball!  This dog shouldn't be in a kennel.
Rehoming criteria: Chester needs a very active home with people who are used to high energy dogs. He really needs a job to do, and daily exercise, and someone who understands the commitment and training this lovely dog needs.
Child Friendly:  Yes, but bouncy. Will consider younger if dog experienced home; otherwise older children only please.
Able to live with cats: Scared of next door cat in home but this would need to be tested further.

Happy Ending: Dan went to a family who had experience with lively Collies and with another rescue, a Border Terrier X.  The two dogs adored each other. (06/10/09)

DAN

History: Dan is in rescue as his owner was working long shifts and couldn't give him the time and commitment he needs. Dan was briefly rehomed but returned after reportedly lunging at somebody during a training class and nipping.
Description: Dan is very small and slightly built for a collie. He is very lively and active. Dan can jump very high and is a typical worky collie, absolutely bursting with energy and very intelligent.  Dan is great with other dogs, walks well on a lead and understands basic commands. Dan is slightly nervous but does not appear to be an aggressive dog, despite the reported nipping incident in his last home. Dan is not interested in balls so would not be suitable for flyball
Rehoming criteria: Homecheck and/or vet reference required. Dan would ideally suit a pet home with collie experience, with agility/obedience to keep his mind and body occupied.
Child friendly:

Happy Ending: Foxy has been rehomed. (06/10/09)

FOXY

History: Foxy was brought in by her owners as she did not get on with the cats anymore.
Description: She is a beautiful looking collie bitch with a fantastic toy drive.
She is petite and fast. Foxy is very sociable with people but a little strong with dogs. Foxy is such a lovely dog. She is totally comfortable with people and has a gentle, adorable side to her when she is relaxed. She is highly trainable and has the right attitude to do fun sports. She will work for toys, food or simply for her handler.
Rehoming criteria: We are looking for experienced collie owners who are knowledgeable of breed traits and able to channel Foxy's energy in the right direction. She is chase orientated and new owners will need to have a perfect recall before she can have off lead exercise. She is also better suited to a semi rural or rural location. She is suitable to live with well trained and sociable dogs.
Child friendly: Older children
/teenagers may be considered.
Age: 18 months old

Happy Ending: Freddie has decided to adopt us and so will be staying with us and competing in Obedience next year. Helen (06/10/09)

FREDDIE

History: Freddie has been on the same farm since a pup and his owner is very sad to part with him. Unfortunately he didn't make the grade as a sheep-dog, despite expensive lessons, but enjoyed riding on the back of the motor bike around the farm. He is much loved by his previous owner but they need a working dog for the sheep and so Freddie needs another occupation. Freddie’s previous owner is very keen to keep in touch with this very special dog in his new home and would very much like him to go into obedience or agility. He is now with me on a smallholding and I am starting him on obedience and basic agility.
Description: He is a black and white smooth/medium coated collie. Freddie is really loving, very bright and ready to learn (and be cuddled). Loves toys and any activity you ask of him.
He is not fully house trained yet, as he hasn’t lived in the house, but he is learning fast.  He is crate and kennel trained and is as good as gold when left. He likes other dogs and is playful.
Rehoming criteria: Freddie is fit and fast and wants to be with you doing stuff, so he will need a home where he can be kept busy. He is a thoroughly nice dog, no vices, comes when called and does not run off. Freddie is gentle and loving, but he is not used to children, so probably better to live with older children.
Child friendly:
Yes, older sensible children.
Able to live with cats: No cats, small animals or poultry.
Age: 2 1/2yrs
Sex: Dog
Neutered: No
Vaccinated: No, but will be fully vaccinated before he goes.
Micro-chipped: Not yet.

Happy Ending: Izzy was rehomed last week. A lady saw her on Agilitynet and fell in love with her. Izzy will try her paw now in Obedience and Agility. Lucky girl. (27/10/09)

IZZY

History: Izzy was rehomed by The Spot at the age of 16 weeks to a family with children. Unfortunately she wasn't trained and now given up for being too 'unruly.'
Description:
Izzy is a short coated black and white Border Collie. She is only 7 months old and still very much a puppy. She didn't get any or much training so need some input. She is very good natured, loves other dogs and people. She wants to do something, but is not hyper and over the top. She picks things up very quickly and she runs like lightening. At the moment we are working on her recall and already after a very short time period, she is so much better. She enjoys walks, likes the water and just being out and about. She travels well, is house trained and crate trained. I did a bit of clicker training with her and she thoroughly enjoyed it. She wants to learn and wants to work. She really doesn't have any hang ups, just needs some training.
Rehoming criteria:
Izzy did get away with murder in her former home, so will need somebody who lets her be a dog, but shows her that she cannot do as she likes. She is not a rebel. She is really just a puppy who has to learn the ropes. Be firm, but friendly! Ideally she should go to a home with another dog, so she can pick up good behaviour from him.
Child friendly: Yes, she is child friendly and really loves people.
Able to live with cats: Not tested
Age: 7 months
Sex: Bitch
Neutered: Yes

Micro-chipped: Yes
Flea sprayed & wormed: Yes

Happy Ending: Jess has found a home. (06/10/09)

JESS

History: Jess was brought in to Battersea as her owners could not cope with her anymore.
Description: Jess is a medium-size mongrel. She is a very active, bright and loves nothing more than being out and about and play with her tennis ball. Jess is a fantastic and fun dog.
Rehoming criteria: We are looking for experienced owners who will do some fun sport with her and keep her stimulated and socialised. She is a little nervous around full on, pushy people and new owners must not force any introductions. She needs a stable, secure home in a semi rural/rural location. Jess is only suitable to live with a male dog as she is not really interested in interacting with dogs.
Child friendly: Jess is suitable to live with teenagers who are used to dogs and could be a great first dog for agility as she will do anything for her toy and is fearless of jumps and obstacles.

Happy Ending: Poppy has been rehomed. (12/10/09)

POPPY

History: Poppy was transferred from Ireland with no history.
Description: Poppy is a short coated black and white long legged collie type. Very keen and responsive, she's like a sponge for learning, picking up new things very quickly and our staff are beginning to run out of things to teach her! She works enthusiastically for both treats and toys, she has already learnt her name, to come when called, sit, down and paw and  loves the company of other dogs. Poppy came to us with a fear of male strangers and approaching hands which she will dart away from if possible, but with the right approach she quickly makes friends. Adopters will need to continue building her confidence in this situation.
Rehoming criteria: All members of family and any existing dogs will have to come to the centre to meet before she will be able to go home. Adopters can be anywhere in the country provided they are happy to travel. Adopters will have to attend a talk.

Happy Ending: Red now has a lovely new home with a great couple in Shropshire. He was rehomed though Agilitynet, so many thanks. (06/10/09)

RED

History: Red was picked up as a stray, so no early history is known.
DescriptionRed is a strong, handsome boy. He is very loving once he gets to know you, but very wary until he is sure you won't hurt him. Once he gets to know you he is a confident dog, who is not a first time dog. He is still mouthing quite a lot and will need work on this. He becomes very wary and scared in a large crowd of people, but this is improving all the time. He is quite a one person dog and forms a strong bond quite quickly. A very agile dog, who loves to run and play.
Rehoming criteria: An experienced home is a must for Red as he is showing a sign of being a very strong dog as his character comes out. He is fine with other dogs, although I feel he may try to be top dog once settled. Red will need to have a lot more training and an active life as he full of energy! I am not sure he has been in a house, but he is very clean in his kennel.
Child friendly:
Yes, but older children would be advisable, due to his size.
Able to live with cats: No, he will chase, although he is fine with chickens and sheep!
Age: Between 1 and 2 years although nearer the year mark.

SANDY

History: Poor Sandy is yet another victim of the 'collies make great pets' mentality.  Bought as a pet dog, she was just too much for her previous owners.
Description: A beautiful gold and white bitch, she has not had any training, but is completely up for it.

SPECTRE & ROLLO

History: These two dogs were dumped in Wales together. They may even be brothers, but do not have to be rehomed together.
Description: Spectre is a speckled black and white boy while Rollo is a sandy coloured, medium-coated boy. They both have the most wonderful temperament and typical collie traits. They would make excellent agility prospects.

TAMMY

History: Tammy was originally from a family with four young children who no longer wanted her as she nipped the kids.
Description: Tammy is an ultimate Mini agility prospect! She is a stunning looking Corgi type! She is a totally fab little girl, fast - leaps everywhere at top speed - on the go, keen to learn and full of character. She loves her toys and carry's her soft teddy around most of the day. She is great with other dogs. She will need puppy training (house training, recall etc). She also had horrible rear dew claws on which have also be removed.
Rehoming criteria: We would like her to go to a superb Mini agility home so please contact Val urgently about this dog, as we feel sure there will be a long queue for her!
Child friendly: A home with older or collie savvy children would be fine. But being very honest we have found not problem with her at all, her nature is lovely.
