Following the success of the Weimaraner, Gundog, Toller, Aussies Worker and Papillon agility leagues, Lurcher enthusiasts are backing a new league exclusively for all types of Lurchers (i.e. sighthounds X with other non-sight hounds and Longdogs (sighthounds x sighthounds.) 'Lurchery' type dogs including sighthound crosses and all pedigree sighthound breeds such as Italian Greyhounds will be allowed though a photograph of the dog might be required.

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2008 League. All those lucky people will be contacted shortly to organise getting their awards to them - personalised Double photo Frames for the Winners and Certificates and Dog Toys for the Runner Ups. There are also trophies for the Rescue dogs which again have been kindly sponsored by Michelle Ainsworth.

A big well done to all who took part. Some of you had a brilliant 2008 and succeeded in moving up not one but two Grades/ Fantastic!

Also a special well done to some of the more 'loopy lurchers' who due to their handlers hard work and patience have now started to getting clear rounds and rosettes, too. We'll be looking forward to hearing how they progress this year.

Best Overall Champion Lurcher of the Year 2008

  • Eileen Ainsworth with Crazy Daisy Moses; (Medium)

As all the Lurcher handlers live so far apart, there will be no presentation this year as few were able to attend last year. However, the Winners and Runners-up will be contacted by email to arrange the safe delivery of their awards when the certificates have been processed, thanks again to non-agility daughter, Grace!

Some of you have already sent in your 2009 membership. This year there is a small increase of 50p, making it now £3 per dog. Please make your cheques payable to P. Triggs, not Lurcher League 2.

Some keen Lurchers have already been out at shows with their handlers and points are already trickling in, and so the Agility season begins again! Good luck to you all. Points for 2009 will soon be up, just need to finish the 2008 work first.

End of 2008 Update

Collie on an aframe designIt's coming towards the end of this season with only a few more shows to go before we total the points for the year so guess what, we're chasing up points now, although most of you have been very good in keeping us up to date with all your achievements. The deadline for entries is 31 December 2008.

Despite the wet weather in the Summer and bouts of Kennel Cough throughout the season, we think 2008 has been an even better year for Lurchers? Some have won out of not one but two grades this season, and some are knocking on the door to go up again. Who knows before the end of the year?

There have been Lurchers gaining places in Qualifiers both in Kennel Club and non-KC events, proving to those ABL (Anything But Lurcher!) owners that our lovely dogs are not to be taken lightly in the ring, hee hee!

Those with more wilful rascals have also reported their persistence in training is paying off and some 'almost good runs' are getting nearer to that clear round, and hopefully a rosette with a number on it so watch this space for newer stars to come.

2007 End of Year Results

Lurcher League 2 is proud to announce it's winners and runner-Ups for 2007 season, and to congratulate all handlers and dogs who have taken part. This fun league is open to all types of Lurchers (Sighthound X with any other non-Sighthound breeds) and Longdogs (Sighthound X Sighthound) including rescue dogs, even if the breeding is not known, as long as it's 'Lurchery'!

Congratulations to the winners and the runners up.

We'd like to wish all Lurchers good luck for 2008 and keep sending in all those lovely points for our Results Page and pictures (5MB or smaller) for the Lurchers in Action Page. For more information about the Lurcher League 2 or to send in your points, go to www.lurcherleague2.piczo.com

Lurcher League Mach 2 Launched

Due to ill health Gina Pears is unable to continue with the Lurcher League and sadly needs to take a break from agility as well. She's asked League member, Paula Triggs to let all the members know on her behalf.

Having enjoyed being members Paula and her daughter Alex would like to see the League continue so they have kindly agreed to carry on. Unfortunately as there no previous paper work for contact details or points from last year, they've felt it better to start afresh with Lurcher League 2 for 2007.

After a few teething problems, Paula has set up a web site for the Lague which includes pages for rules, points and results, etc. as well as a section called Lurchers in Action with lots of lovely lurcher pics it. Anyone wanting to join can send a pic of their furry friend to be added to the collection!

Could any Lurcher handlers interested in joining please email their contact details, dog's name and grade to Paula so she can send you the Rules and Claim Form for 2007. If you are a Junior handler please include your date of birth.

Visit www.lurcherleague2.piczo.com for more information.

Please do get in touch - we love hearing from you, even if it's only to tell us that one of the pages has gone wrong!
