The Working BSD Society has secured the weekend of 26-27 April for their 2008 Agility show which, once again, will be held at Newbury Showground, Berkshire.
The COmmittee would like to thank everyone for their input and positive comments about their recent show, which took place on the 31 March/1 April 2007. They have listened to all critiques and have taken steps to ensure that any problems encountered over the two days will be ironed out for 2008. The only part we have no control over is the weather. We just hope that the high winds we experienced this year will not be a problem next time!
They will, of course, be looking for Judges and Ring Managers so would be pleased to hear from anyone interested in undertaking either of these roles. They would also be delighted to hear from any Club that would be prepared to undertake ring duties on either of the two days. We can offer an excellent package for any Club offering their services. Interested parties for any of the above should be directed to: agility@wbsds.org.uk
On the Agility Forum, Helen Fletch, Chairperson of WBSDS, stated 'It is perhaps worth noting that both the Working BSD Society and The Belgian Shepherd Dog Association of GB are currently working together to send a team to the BSD Agility World Championships in Le Touquet in May 2007. However, although both organisations have run agility shows recently, we would point out that these events are not linked in any way and that apart from the BSD WC there is no other connection between us. We hope that the above will clear any confusion that may have arisen. '

A
new sport, aptly named, Jetty Dogs is being introduced at the All About
Dogs show at Brentford (Essex) on 12-13 May 2007. It challenges the dogs to
dash down a specially built 42ft canine runway and jump headlong into a
large portable swimming pool. The longest distance jumped wins. Dogs,
handlers and spectators really enjoy the excitement of this spectacular
sport and all love to watch the speeding dogs having a great time.
They equally enjoy the antics of owners who just can’t quite convince their
best friends to make that first jump (NO coercion or force is allowed, of
course).
Roy Dyer, Show Director, of All About Dogs, said 'I am delighted to be able to offer DockDogs the opportunity and the facilities to bring this exciting dog sport to Britain. It is a huge canine sport and very popular in the USA.'
Some of America’s top DockDogs trainers will be there to help get the biggest jumps and splashes from the daring dogs. The event will also be the debut of the first official UK club to the sport, East Midlands JettyDogs, featuring Jumpin’ Jack Splash. Jack is a black Flatcoat Retriever from Lincolnshire, who holds the European record with a 21 foot jump. Perhaps your dog can try to beat him!
Tom Kennedy, Founder of Chicagoland DockDogs, said, 'This is a dog sport that does not require extensive training and rules. The dogs run… jump…and have fun! I am sure once the people overseas experience just how much fun JettyDogs is, word will quickly spread and it will become a very popular activity for dog owners whether they have sporting dogs or house pets.'
Kennedy also noted; 'We have been working towards the debut of DockDogs overseas for a while now and The All About Dogs Show is the perfect Venue to do so.'
Prizes are awarded to all dogs that jump. Be it one foot, or twenty. All breeds, sizes, and mixes welcomed. Dogs compete against those of their own ability. Come and see this exciting new sport that has thrilled thousands in North America or even better bring your dog and be a part of the Debut of JettyDogs!
For more information or information on how to pre-register, please contact: All About Dogs, Brentwood, Essex. Tel. 01277-226624. Web site: http://www.allaboutdogs.org.uk

While
browsing the Agilitynet archive, Dave Roberts came across the Founding
History article, written by Peter Lewis. Much to Dave's surprise, he
discovered that agility had been invented by Peter Meanwell and members of
his own club at the request of the Kennel Club some thirty years ago. Peter
Meanwell and members of LGDS & ABTS spent many a night at the Pyewipe Inn,
planning the demonstration and then building the equipment at the green
club house which is still there. Dave was actually a member of the club at
that time, doing Obedience with my Doberman. He didn’t even know anything
about the birth of agility right in his own backyard.
After looking further into the founding history, Dave discovered that neither the late Peter Meanwell nor his Club ever received any official recognition - or thanks - for creating this internationally enjoyed dog sport. Being a proud Lincoln boy, Dave decided to do something about it. He approached the Club to see if they could hold a show to celebrate the 30th year of agility to which they agreed.
Thus the 30th Anniversary show was born. It is to be held on the weekend 29-30 September 2007 at the Lincolnshire Showground as, unfortunately the Local Council blocked the Club from using its training ground where it all began. What a shame! In any case, several of the original Lincoln team, Kevin Foster, Stuart Gillham, Chris Bell and Fred Welham from Yorkshire will be honoured at the show. Trophies will be given up to third place in all classes.
As Lincoln GSD only has a small Agility section - the majority of members do Obedience and Working Trials - Dave is hoping that other clubs and individuals will chip in to help run the show and even sponsor a class or two to celebrate the occasion. Trade stands are also most welcome.
If you are interested in putting something back into the sport via this show, Dave Roberts (Show Secretary) on tel. 01522-824049 or email: daveroberts_283@fsmail.net or Steve Osbourne (Show Manager) on tel. 01522-703352 or email: soco4547@ntlworld.com (17/04/07)
UK Agility have announced another new show, run by H J Agility which will be held at Kidlington, near Oxford, on Sunday, 17 June.
Hazel Horobin who started the club eleven years ago said, 'We thought it was time to give something back to Agility so hence the show.'
She continued, 'Stratfield Brake Sports Ground is a large place in a good location. It is very easy to get to from M40. A34 and A40 and has lots of walks and space to exercise the dogs. The parking is good as well not far away from the rings. I’m afraid there isn’t any camping this year but, if all goes well and we hold the show next year, I will be working on it.'
H J Agility is based at a place called Bunkers Hill, just north of Kidlington, Oxford. Things have grown in the last couple of years and now they have some some very enthusiastic members. competing at shows so watch out for those purple t-shirts!
The schedule can be found on Agilitynet. For any questions, email Hazel Horrobin at Hazel@hetom.go-plus.net

The show, however, will go ahead in the usual format. The only difference is it will be a slightly longer walk to the club house for cooked breakfasts and the bar!
For those who are hungry upon arrival, hot meals and other refreshments will be available on the Friday evening in addition to the usual Saturday and Sunday service.
If anyone has any questions, please call Shelley on tel. 01263-511306

The WBSDS and Dartford are
delighted to announce that they have been selected to host a KC Olympia ABC
Agility Qualifying Heat at their show on 15th & 16th September 2007. Due to
public demand we have decided to not combine classes 9 and 10 but to leave
class 9 as Special ABC agility - Combined Large Grades 1 to 4, and make
Class 10 Grades 1 to 7 (as opposed to 5, 6 and 7 only as it was before) and
therefore Class 10 IS NOW the KC Olympia ABC Agility Qualifying heat. ABC
handlers (Grades 1 to 4) will be able to enter both Classes 9 and 10 if
they wish but they must count each run as one of their "maximum of 4 runs
per dog per day".
The entry form has been changed to enable me to know who entered when. Any
entries received by handlers who have already entered Class 9 will be
contacted over the next two week period, by either phone or email, and
given the chance to change their entry.

Chippenham AC will not be holding a Kennel Club Olympia ABC Agility qualifying heat in September 2007. Newton Heath DTC has now arranged for this heat to be hosted by Dartford DTC (in conjunction with the Working Belgian Shepherd Society) at their forthcoming agility show on 15-16 September 2007.

For
al those going to the Colchester DAC show this Saturday, 19 May, please see
the below announcement from the Highway Office. You will need to allow
extra time to your journey for this road closure. If the diversion
leads you through Colchester central instead of the A12, it is estimated
that it should take you about ten minutes longer first thing in the
morning. The venue postcode is C03 8PB should you wish to find an
alternative route.
What's Happening Now?
Work to install the new bridge will take place between 17 and 20 May.
In order for the works to be carried out safely, it will be necessary to
close the A12 between Spring Lane Interchange (Junction 27) and the Crown
Interchange (Junction 29) overnight and at offpeak periods.
The dates and times of the closures are:
The A12 will be open in between these times but there may be single lane closures and ispeed in limits in force during these periods.
In order to reduce disruption to road users in the future, the Highways Agency will also be using the opportunity of the A12 closures to undertake maintenance work on the Boxted and Severalls Road bridges nearby.

creating the Pairs Entry Form, and gone into numbers fatigue.'
The pairs classes for Tuesday should read:-
3 Large Grades 1-2
8 Large Grade 6
23 Small Grades 1-7 (This one was mistakenly listed under Wednesday)
The Pairs classes for Wednesday should read:-
32 Large Grades 3-5 (mistakenly listed as Small 1-7)
42 Medium Grades 1-7

The
schedules should be arriving now for those who went last year. They are
also available on the DiN web-site
www.dogsinneedagility.com,
and it should also be live on iSS later today. Although the schedule does
say limited camping, this is just a precaution and there is no need to
panic. There are more spaces available this year than we used last year.
iSS received their first postal entry this morning - and their first card from the Post Office for underpayment of postage. Please, please, please check your postage before sending off your entry. If you use a large envelope, a normal stamp will not cover it. If you use a lot of entry forms, the weight may go over. If in doubt, wack another stamp on.
If you are likely to be leaving home before the ring cards are posted out (estimated date 28-29 July (The Agility Club weekend) then please note this fact on the Header Form, where you enter your return address, and iSS will hold your cards for you.
Thank you, and see you there

This is a message for all Scottish handlers who compete in Scotland. AS you probably know, the 2007 Scottish Dog of the Year (SDoY) competition started officially on 1 January 2007. The final, which will be judged by Christine Robson, will be held at the Scottish Kennel Club (SKC) show in August. This year it has been decided that it will be for dogs of all sizes - Large, Medium and Small - in Grades 6 & 7 only.
To recap the rules are:-
Handlers must live in Scotland
Points will be gained by dogs competing in Grades 6 & 7
The points will come from the first graded Agility (grades 6 & 7) on the schedule of a Scottish show.
If there are no graded classes it will be the first Agility class that grades 6 & 7 compete in.
Only one class per day, as above
The first 10 handlers in the Large size gain points. 10 points for the first placed handler to 1 point for the tenth placed handler
The first 6 handlers in both Medium and Small sizes gain points. 6 points to the first placed handler and 1 point to the sixth placed handler
The top 20 placed large dogs/handlers and the top 6 placed Medium and Small dogs/handlers will be invited to compete in the final which is held at the SKC show in August
The start date for 2007 was the 1 January 2007 and the cut of date will be the 5 August 2007(Kingdom of Fife show)
Peter Elms said 'This is the premier Final in Scotland which handlers and dogs in the lower grades should want to aspire to. If anyone wishes to contact me, feel free to email me on peterelms@tiscali.co.uk'

Chippenham AC regrets that due to the ground being flooded, the Chippenham Open & Junior Show due to be held on Sunday, 1 July 2007 at Chaldicott Farm, Semley in Dorset has had to be cancelled. Please do not attempt to come to the show. Further information will be forthcoming as soon as decisions have been made. rain rain.

Following
a notice on the Agility Forum that the meadow at Berkeley was under one
foot of water, Gary Woodham reports that the ground at the Tuffley show
venue has drained well and, provided the river keeps within its banks, the
site will not flood again. He will be inspecting the site again on Monday
afternoon to see what effect this weekends predicted rain has on the
meadow. If, as expected, the meadow copes then they will move onto site on
Wednesday, and the show will run as planned.
If the weekend rain floods the meadow again, the Club is planning to use an alternative venue which is currently under negotiation. They are talking to the owners about today. Whatever happens, do not panic. Tuffley show will go ahead! Please expect an update on the Agility Forum and the Agilitynet on Monday evening.
June Richardson of Agility Aid apologises for omitting Class 29 Large Jumping Combined 1-4 off the ring plan for Tuffley. Assuming the show goes ahead, this will be in Ring 7, following Part 1 & 2.

on 14-15 July (Obedience) and 21-22 July (Agility) at the beginning of next
week but has written to Agilitynet to say that she is concerned that they
may be delayed by the impending postal strike. Don't worry. They're

The Kennel Club will be using a computerised results service in all rings at its International Agility Festival on 10-12 August at Peterborough. All the Ring Managers will be shown how to use this system on Friday morning, before the competition starts. The Kennel Club is also looking for additional people who would like to be shown how the system works who would then be responsible for showing others how to input the results over the weekend when the score board person needs relieving. This will mean that results will not have to be written out manually and the full class results will be able to be posted at the Secretary's tent during the day.
Anybody that is interested in learning how to use the system should contact Debbie Deuchar at the Kennel Club on tel. 020-7518 1013.
And don't forget the entries close this Saturday, 30 June.

Unfortunately
the adverse weather conditions have forced the cancellation of the BAA
Midland Counties Show at Chesterfield this coming weekend (30 June - 1 July
2007). Cheryl has tried very hard to try and find an alternative venue but,
with the whole region badly affected by the flooding, this has proved to be
in vain. The entire Midland Counties team and the BAA wish to express their
deep disappointment at having to make this unavoidable decision.
Once unrecoverable costs have been calculated, refunds will be made available at the next BAA Show run by EMDAC (July 12-15). Cheques for those BAA members not attending the July EMDAC Show will be sent out the following week.

Due
to unforeseen circumstances, the Bretford show organisers have notified
Agilitynet they they've had to move their 2007 show to another venue.
Gemma Dorman said, 'We do understand this causes inconvenience to you but we have been badly let down by the land owner and have had to find a new venue at extremely short notice so the show could still continue on the same dates (14-15 July). On the plus side the new venue will now have a larger exercise area which is something our old showground was severely lacking in and there also won't be the long walk to the toilets.'
The new venue is in Staverton in Daventry and the postcode is NN11 6JP. Full directions will be sent out with the running orders. If in the meantime, if anyone has any queries please email Gemma Dorman on bezelbaker@hotmail.co.uk.

have just been informed by Living Heritage that they have had to cancel the
Fordingbridge Country Show on 14-15 July, 2007, which in turn means that
the Orchard Events Agility show is also cancelled. The reason given is that
they could not secure the venue with the Fordingbridge committee.
Organiser Rosemary Stowers said, 'We apologise that we are unable to hold our Agility show at Fordingbridge this year. As you can appreciate, this is completely out of our hands. Full refunds/return of cheques will be made as soon as possible. We hope that we are able to hold our show next year at the Living Heritage Country Show. Thanks to everyone who support our shows.'

Due to unforeseen circumstances, it has been necessary for Weardale DAC to call upon its Reserve Championship Judge for the show on 22 July 2007. Classes 36, 44 and 50 (Large, Medium & Small) will now be judged by Mrs Jackie Gardner.

Unfortunately
High Peak DTC has had to call off their show for this weekend due to the
state of the ground which does not look good enough to cope with all the
traffic should it rain again between now and then.
They are looking to reschedule if they can find a suitable date and venue. Keep an eye on this page and we will let you know as soon as possible.

Milton Keynes May Cancel Due to Low Entry
The Milton Keynes DTC 2007 Show may have to be cancelled, nothing to do with the weather. The closing date is Saturday, the 4 of August but, as it stands at the moment, there are not enough entries to go ahead.
Hayley Wilson said, 'If you know of any Grade 1 & 2 handlers (any size dog S, M or L) who are looking for graded classes send them our way. I know the classes are not as good for the Grade 3-5 but there are three runs each if you can find a pair. It would be a shame to have to cancel and we don’t even know if it’s gonna rain that weekend yet!'

DDAC
Committee have decided to postpone their July 2007 show to 21-23 September
2007. There will also be a change of venue in order to minimise the risk of
further cancellation.
The New Venue is Melton Mowbray Airfield (disused!) on Dalby Road (B6047), Nr Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire LE13 0BL. The best route, avoiding Melton Mowbray and major road works, is the A46/A607 (from the west & north & south (from the M1)).
Competitors are asked to please retain their running orders, as classes remain the same, except for the KC Novice and Pedigree team Qualifiers. These will become non-qualifiers, i.e. G3-5 Combined Agility and an Open Team. No further entries can be excepted as this is not a re-scheduled show, and we are postponing to dates within a twelve-week time frame under the old licences.)
Due to daylight hours at this time of year, Friday judging will commence at 12.30pm. Saturday and Sunday judging will start at 8.00am.
The Adams Derby Final will be run Saturday lunchtime after the last qualifying heat in the morning. This will mean that several classes from that ring will be moved into other rings. It will not affect the classes that are first in the rings. Amended ring plans will be available on the day.
There is strictly no camping on Thursday for non-members. Camping will be available from 8.00am on Friday. but please be patient if you have to wait.
Please pass this information onto anyone who was entered into the show.
Any queries should be emailed to rae b 23 @ ntlworld.com (removing spaces). Please bear in mind that she does work and that there may not be an instant response.

As
a result of the unforeseen postponement of the DDAC show last weekend and
its subsequent rescheduling on 21-23 September, the organisers find
themselves short of judges over the whole weekend. Any offers for judging
should be made to Rae Blythe at:rae b 23 @ ntlworld.com (removing spaces)
Any additional offers of help would also be appreciated.
Please pass this information on to anyone know who may be interested.

The
Scunthorpe OATC Committee visited their show venue today, and have had a
number of conversations with the owners of the showground. They are all of
the opinion that the show will go ahead this weekend. It is sandy soil and
drains exceptionally well, and can certainly cope with the worst of British
Weather.
Between now and the weekend, the committee will be busy marking out the venue, preparing for the show, and getting on with their normal everyday lives.
Lisa Adamson asked, 'Can we please, therefore, tell you now - no news is good news. You do not need to contact us, or panic that the show might be cancelled. Please do not call the numbers on the schedule to check whether the show is going ahead. Our phones have been ringing almost non-stop! If, for any reason, there are any doubts about the show, we will post as and when, but in the meantime, please leave us to get on with the planning of the show. See you all this weekend.'

Karen Parker reports that nothing much has changed. It's going to take sometime for the floods to go down. All major roads, however, are okay. Problems still remain on the A4144 Abingdon Rd and A420 Botley Road. These are two of the main routes into Oxford. The A34 is running as normal. Around the area, there are still problems in Witney, Clanfield, Stadhampton, Nothmoor, Stanton Harcourt, Sutton Courtney and Kennington and Purley in Berkshire. These are all off the main roads though and any locals will probably Be aware of their own area problems.
As for the weather, all weekend is not expected to remain completely dry. Friday will largely be dry with some sunny spells though isolated light showers are possible (2-5mm max.) It should be dry again on Saturday with sunny spells and just isolated showers. Some outbreaks of light rain may push over southern coasts at times, perhaps edging further inland later on with rain moving into the south west in the evening and overnight (4-8mm max).
Sunday, unfortunately is expected to be cloudy and wet with rain for much of the day. Over southern parts, it may be persistent and locally heavy, probably becoming drier and brighter from the south through the afternoon.
There are still significant uncertainties with regards to Sundays weather. Current indications are there is a 70% probability that the Southern Counties (south of line from Bristol to Kent) will see totals of 10-20mm with up to 40mm on high ground. However, there is a 20% probability that this rainfall will track 150miles further north.

Wirral ATS would like to thank everyone for their understanding when we had to cancel the second day of our Agility Show. The decision was not taken lightly but was made with your safety in mind and consideration for the grounds person at our venue.
The Club will be offering refunds but they are still in the process of working out at what percentage they will be based on.
If you are claiming a refund and have not already done so, please send a SAE to Wirral ATS C/O Mrs M Nicholls, 98 Bermuda Road, Moreton, Wirral CH46 6AY. If they do not hear anything from you by the 15 August, they shall treat your entry as a donation towards Dogs Trust and The Phyllis Croft foundation for Canine Epilepsy (PCFCE).”

Looks
like we spoke too soon. The Derbyshire DAC show this weekend has been
cancelled and that's official!
Nic Jones said, 'Huge apologies but regretfully we have had to cancel the entire show. It has rained continuously for the last 18hrs and the ground will not be suitable for the event. We have not made this decision lightly and it was taken with safety being paramount. Please bear with us and the other show committees affected in a similar way. It is not a decision any club makes lightly.'
As soon as DDAC have decided whether to re-schedule or refund, they will let competitors know. And as for the qualifiers and the Adams Derby final again, once they will let everyone know.

Last we heard, The Agility Club Show at Newbury was on. As the Newbury ground is loam on chalk, it should drain well even after the heavy rains today.
June Richardson of Agility Aid said, 'I have just heard from the showground that, despite rain today, the ground is holding up well with only a couple of puddles left. The show will definitely go ahead. '
For those worried about the roads in and about Newbury, Karen Parker who works for the Environment Agency, reports that the only problems might be for those coming north along the Thames, i.e. Pangbourne, Purley or Henley etc. Even then the main roads are okay. Witney and Standlake still have some problems but that is receding. For those coming through Oxford, there are still some problems but that's only if you are going through the City!
For those asking, the Chievely Roundabout is not closed. There is, however, a one lane restriction at the Chieveley junction due to continuing improvement work.

Ground
conditions are very good at the week venue and all road access to the venue
is fine.
The only current problem is the drinking water supply. Currently there is no water supply to most areas of Cheltenham. However, the news today is that it should be back on by Monday. In case this has not happened, Portaloo toilets have been ordered to arrive Monday am. All campers are advised to bring as much drinking water as possible as well as aqua rolls already filled. If there is any delay on the water being turned back on, the organisers have arranged for a lorry to take aqua rolls off site to be filled with drinking water.
If the situation changes we will put further announcements on the web pages and on the UKA office answer phone.

Following
an inspection of the venue yesterday and discussions with the owner, at
this stage, the Aylesbury Agility Show on 4-5 August is still
on! Ordinarily the venue is well drained but a further inspection will take
place after the weekend and a decision made and announced during Wednesday.

A
Young Kennel Club member flew the flag for the organisation and Great
Britain last weekend by triumphing at the International Junior Agility
Championships in Belgium. Anthony Clarke, aged 15, from Lechlade,
Gloucestershire picked up three awards at the event, including the
prestigious title of International Junior Agility Champion in the Large dog
competition.
Youngsters from ten countries came together in Ostend, Belgium from 13-15th July to compete in the 6th International Junior Agility Championships. Great Britain was represented in all three events: Jumping, Agility and Team Agility, alongside competitors from France, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria.
Anthony entered two dogs into the show; Gemmedean Black Magic, a seven year old Belgian Shepherd/Border Collie cross, and Moel Lass (known as Scrum), a three year old Border Collie. Anthony and Magic came second in the Over 14 Large Jumping class, and on Sunday they put on an incredibly exciting performance to win the Over 14 Large Agility. This win, combined with the jumping score, made him the fastest junior in the entire show by three seconds and earned him the title of International Junior Agility Champion (Large dog).
Anthony has won the Young Kennel Club (YKC) Agility Dog of the Year competition at Crufts three years running with Gemmedean Black Magic, but this is his first European win, for which the Kennel Club extends its warmest congratulations.
Anthony said, 'It was brilliant to have had the opportunity to go to Belgium and represent Great Britain, and to come home International Champion is amazing! I am so happy with Magic as she put everything into every run. It was Scrum's first time on the carpet ,and she showed a really promising start, coming 16th.'
The YKC would also like to congratulate Katie Mitchell and her dog, Comebyanaway Rocket Man, who also represented the YKC and Great Britain throughout the weekend. The pair of them put in an excellent performance and were a vital part of the small, but talented, Great Britain team.
To find out more information about the competition you can visit the website at www.junioragility.be . Or, to find out more about the Young Kennel Club, visit the Kennel Club website www.ykc.org.uk.

Empingham
DTC will be arranging refunds once all the costs have been covered. Anyone
wanting a refund should send a stamped addressed envelope to Jackie
Harrison, 18 Middle Street, Croxton Kerrial, Grantham, Lincs NG32 1QP.
Jackie said, 'We apologise for the lateness of the decision to cancel but the ground was holding up really well until we had the monsoon on Friday afternoon. The rain then continued throughout Saturday and we had no option but to cancel Sunday as well.'
Christine Short who used to be Club Secretary, Show Secretary and Chief Instructor but now lives in Staffordshire., said 'As the Show was cancelled at the last minute a lot of costs were already involved but as soon as the Secretary has all the bills in she will sort out the refunds. Please bear with her.
We are still in a sort of state of shock that the show has not taken place. It feels like a nightmare that you will wake up from and everything has not really happened. It was so sad to dismantle all the rings, tents etc. with no runs having taken place. Not to mention binning all the paperwork and masses of food we had got for the catering. All that work done in vain.
However, it all fell into proportion when we watched the flood scenes on the TV in the Rugby Clubhouse and saw the misery that so many people are having to suffer. After all, it is only our hobby and our dogs are happy just to be with us.'

Speaking
from the show venue at Kesteven Rugby Football Club (Grantham, Lincs.),
Trevor Richardson, Competition Manager, has confirmed that the Empingham
show on Sunday has been cancelled as the ground is absolutely waterlogged.
He said that their immediate priority was towing all the cars and caravans
safely off the site, and asked if people could hold off calling with
enquiries until Monday or Tuesday to give the show committee a chance to
dry out and recover.
Source: Trevor Richardson (21/07/2007)
The news from the show venue is that the ground is drying out and the sun is shining. There are still a lot of wet areas but all systems are go for Sunday.
The organisers ask that people avoid the wet areas so it is essential that you park wherever you are directed. Everyone must come in the main gate. To stop vehicle movements, there will be no driving around on site At all and no saving spaces.
Fingers crossed there is no more heavy rain.

Saturday is CANCELLED. They will reassess the situation tomorrow to see if
they can go ahead with Sunday. Christine will let me know once they decide
and I'll post the info here as soon as I get it. If you haven't left to

Newlands
Show is Cancelled for Saturday 21 July. Sunday is Under ReviewIt has been decided, with regret, that the Newlands show on Saturday is cancelled. A decision will be made about the Sunday Show later. Really really sorry.
Just to prove that the new technology (email and Internet) works, Arthur Rogers said on the Agility Forum, 'Just thought you may be interested to know that I have just left the Newlands Showground (5.15pm) and, at that time only two caravans had turned up. Impressive result considering the number that booked in. We are, of course, very sorry for those that did arrive.'
Lorna Goodban has emailed these pictures of the venue and says that they will post a message on the Forum in the morning with the decision for Sunday. It will also be appearing on Agilitynet.

The
Caerphilly Show Committee is sorry to have to report that their show (21-22
July) has had to be cancelled. Tracy Bennett, The Show Secretary. has just
returned from visiting the venue and the ground is completely saturated,
even after the lovely sunny day we've had today. South Wales also has
severe weather warnings for Friday and Saturday and Tredegar Park are
having to cancel a number of events, one of them being ours.
Further information will be posted on the Agility Forum and on the Club website as soon as soon as decisions have been made. If you could all pass the word around, especially to those who you know do not have access to the Internet, it would be greatly appreciated.
Apologies for the short notice and the disappointment.

Weardale show (20-22 July) is definitely on and continuing. "The ground is fine, and although the entrance is a little muddy on the venue itself there is no problem. We haven't had too much rain, and though the forecast isn't great for Saturday we fully expect to carry on", said show secretary Susan Mallabar at 8:00 pm on Friday evening.

Chelle says, 'We have not had that much undry stuff and our ground is, it turns out, better drained than even we thought it would be. We start at 9.30am tomorrow and will take entries on the day. I know the weather forecast is bad everywhere for this weekend. I hope they get it wrong in at least some places. Rotherham needs water like the eskimos need snow. See you soon.'

For
the second year running, Packington has had its show devastated by bad
weather. Even worse this year as we were forced to abandon Monday’s show
when the landowner of our new venue became more and more worried about the
state of his land. We were having to tow vehicles off the site at the
end of Sunday’s competitions and, after a night of uninterrupted rain, the
thought of roughly another 100 vehicles arriving on Monday and then trying
to leave was just too much.
I can only assure all the disappointed competitors that you were nowhere near as disappointed as the Committee and members of Packington ADS were. As soon as we were aware of the fact that the show was not going ahead, we contacted as many competitors as possible but, unfortunately, contacting everyone was well nigh impossible and we did have some angry persons turned away. Fortunately these were very few as most people understood our predicament.
Although the club managed to break even last year, this year we have a substantial loss. We understand that the competitors were not only disappointed but also out of pocket. We are, in fact, only liable to repay entries after defraying our expenses which are considerable since we had to pay the full amount for most of the services provided even though we had no use for them on the second day. Apologies also for the length of time it has taken to announce this decision, but we were waiting for final bills to come in and hoping against hope that the figures would not be as bad as we feared.
In the light of these circumstances, we deeply regret that we are unable to refund our disappointed competitors and can only hope that people will understand our problem.

Saturday, 6 October - Combined Large 1 & 2 Jumping and Agility with a Pay on the Day, time permitting
Sunday, 7 October - Graded Large 4, 5, 6 & 7 Jumping and Agility with a Pay on the Day unlikely
Competitors should be aware that as this is a game show gunfire is expected within the Ardingly showground. The schedule will be available shortly.

approval of the Kennel Club. Originally Monday 16 July, the closing date
will now be Monday, 23 July. Online entries will continue to be possible
using Internet Show Services

have missed the original closing date because we set it a little earlier
than usual this year; however Agility Aid have kindly agreed to pull
out the stops and work to the later closing date for us.'
'We are offering both jumping and agility classes for literally every grade and all three sizes of dogs (except championship), as well as the excitement of two knockout competitions - the Eukanuba mini circular knockout and the Laser 'intermediate' pairs knockout - plus Eukanuba mini-mixi pairs and mini challenge Crufts qualifiers. conditions and the County Show in June, Derbyshire DAC has had to
make alternative arrangements for their Open Show as follows:-

close to the first left turn) signposted for Champney Springs and Brick

The Kennel Club welcomes the move by the FCI not to attempt to preclude international competitions for all dogs including crossbreeds. They have agreed that for the future the Kennel Club will continue to commit to the International Agility Festival and the Olympia Events, but will offer the sum of £25,000 for allocation to support the International Team. The current expenditure on the World Championships is in excess of £21,000.
The Council is being asked to decide whether it should support the World Championships (Open to pedigree Dogs Only), the European Open (Open to All Dogs) or in fact both. If both is decided, then money, by sponsorship or fund raising, will have to be found to make up the total spend over £25,000 This will be in the region of £20-£25,000.
If the World Championships are decided then the selection procedure etc. will continue as at present.
If the European Open is decided then the Council will be asked to decide which of the following it would like to see.
Proposal a - Home Nations Teams.
Offer equal proportion of the budget available to support individual teams from the home countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Management/Co-ordination
The home country Liaison Council representative will be responsible to
the Kennel Club for ensuring the guidelines for qualification are met and
for organising and co-ordinating the team.
In the event that the Liaison Council representative is unable / unwilling to take on this responsibility an alternative manager / co-ordinator may be appointed with the approval of the Kennel Club.
The Kennel Club will provide administrative resources and will ensure that the teams operate consistently and using best practise.
The manager / co-ordinator roles are voluntary, unpaid positions (as for the current FCI World Championship Team). Any expenses related to management travel and accommodation will come from the budget provided to the Team.
Teams
Teams will be a maximum of 9 dogs and handlers, the target would be to have 3 dogs for each height category
Proposal b – Team GB (&NI) -
Model 2 is based on the existing set up for qualification and management of the FCI World Championship team. The team will be representative of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Qualifying System
Will mirror the current system but run over separate days and open to all dogs.
Venue and dates to be decided, under advice from the Liaison Council.
Teams
Teams will be a maximum of 30 dogs and handlers, the target would be to have 10 dogs for each height category.
Management / Co-ordination
The Liaison Council will need to recommend to the Kennel Club someone to be appointed as Team Manager responsible for the management, co-ordination, selection and running of the team.
Role and responsibility to mirror that of the current FCI World Championship Team.

Ring cards for the Norfolk Festival next weekend are now in the post. There is a slight problem with classes 9 (Allsorts on Saturday), Classes 5 and 6 (Grades 6-7 Jumping and Agility on Saturday) in that the running orders have not printed on the cards. Please do not worry. The running orders will be posted at the appropriate rings on the day as and they will also be posted on the notice board. If you are a Grade 3 dog in Class 4 (Graded 3, 4 & 5 Jumping on Saturday), you may find Grade 4 listed. The running orders dictate which grade you are, and these are correct.
Sorry for the confusion. P.S. I have ordered good weather for the weekend!

We
took a moment to ask the show secretaries with shows this weekend about the
state of the ground at their venues and this is the information we got. Any
others are probably at their sites now setting up.
'The ground at Wellingborough is fine,' says Adam Dixon. 'Where it was dodgy getting on/off the field, trackers have been put down over the grass to enable vehicles/caravans onto the field. Once on the field everything is okay.'
Karen Smith reports that the St. Edwards show is going ahead. Relatively speaking it hasn't been that wet here in Kent so the ground should be fine and the forecast is okay, too.

Park has reminded handlers that the closing date for its 2 September show
is Monday 16 July - earlier than in previous years. "We just needed to
allow a little extra time for processing entries because so many big shows
like the KC Agility Festival and Dogs in Need occur during August when we
are getting all the entries ready," according to show secretary John
Leslie.
He explained: "With two knockout competitions - the Eukanuba mini circular knockout and the Laser pairs knockout - there is plenty of work to do! But we have again tried to provide suitable runs for all levels and sizes of dog, as well as the knockouts and the Eukanuba qualifiers. Good news! Put a new date in your diary. The Chippenham Open & Junior show has a new date. It will now be held on Saturday, 25 August 2007 at the same venue (Chaldicott Farm in Dorset). The Club is just finalising the details on the schedule and hope to have it available before the end of the week.
Anyone who entered the cancelled show will be receiving a credit note for entry fees (minus expenses already incurred) and a schedule for the new date either via email or post. The schedule will also be on-line on Agiitynet soon.

There has been a delay in the production of the running orders. This should be rectified shortly and they will be posted ASAP. Please don't panic. They will arrive!
The Show Committee would also like to thank all the kind offers of help we have received but, due to smaller numbers, we will not need to take up the individual offers this year. Once again thank you to everyone that offered their support.

Due
to further rain this weekend, the meadow at Berkeley has flooded again and
will not recover in time for the weekend. The Tuffley Show Committee has
made a decision to move the whole show to Top Barn in Worcester at Holt
Heath, postcode WR6 6NH.
Gary Woodham said, 'We could have held on for a couple of days but would have lost the option of the alternative venue. Please bear with us when you arrive as we need to control camping on entry as we have less space. We are just glad to be able to put the show on and thank the Kennel Club and Top Barn for their help in this matter.'

to the recent heavy rains, Unfortunately, Otley DTS has to cancel their
show show next Saturday, 7 July 2007. Because of the condition of the
ground, Harewood has informed the club that they've cancelled a number of
events and the agility show is one of them.
The Show Committee would like to apologise for any disappointment, but obviously this is out of their control. They would be grateful if this message could be passed to anyone you may know who had entered the show and doesn't have internet access. Efforts will be made to contact entrants this week. Entry fees minus expenses already incurred will be sent back in due course.

change - actually a move around more than change - so there was a bit of a

2008
marks two very special anniversaries. It will be 30 years since Peter
Meanwell lit up the main ring at Crufts with a team competition similar to
show jumping that he'd dreamed up with John Varley. That exhibition went on
to become one of the largest and most popular dog sports ever - Agility.
Five years later in 1983, The Agility Club was formed by a group of enthusiasts, to help bring some order to the many different rules that agility shows were running under, and to enable people throughout the country to get information on shows being held, via the Agility Voice magazine.
To celebrate these two special anniversaries and to recognise and reward the contributions and achievements of those in Agility, The Agility Club is proud to announce their 25th Anniversary Awards and Gala Celebration. The event will be held at Stoneleigh Park Exhibition and Conference Centre, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire on Saturday, 16 February 2008 and is open to those with an interest past or present in Agility. The event is generously supported by: principal sponsor Pedigree, main sponsors Genesis and Eukanuba, and category sponsors Premier Show Jumps, Norton Rosettes, iShowServices and Doggie Solutions.
The Gala Celebration will be a black tie dinner, followed by presentation of the Awards, before the chance to dance the night away. Nominations are open for ten categories including:-
Best Show
Best Trainer
Best Judge
Agility Personality
Unsung Hero of Agility
Future of Agility
Best ever Agility Dog
Agility Innovation
All-time Handler
Contribution to Agility by a Club, Group, Organisation or Company
Nominations can only be made by Agility Club members, but voting will be open to all when the shortlists are released in November. There has never been a better time to join The Agility Club: as well as a year’s subscription to the Agility Voice, members enjoy discounts on Club events, including the Gala Celebration.
Committee member and one of the event organisers, Jill Spurr said 'We wanted to mark next year in a very special and unique way. Having a BAFTA style awards ceremony will give everyone the chance to celebrate all that is good about agility, have a night to remember and hopefully raise a substantial sum of money for charity too.' The Gala Celebration is non-profit making: any profits made will be donated to charities.
In addition to the ten categories open for nomination, The Agility Club will be making a very special award for Lifetime Contribution to Agility.
Further details of the event are available on www.agilityclub.co.uk or download 25th Anniversary Awards & Gala Celebration Nomination Information Pack here. You will need a .pdf reader.

Following the recent adverse weather conditions, Aberdeen CTS has been advised by Aberdeen City Council that their original venue, the Highland Showground, at Hazlehead Park, is unusable for their show on 8-9 September 2007.
The council have given the Club permission to use the use of Seaton Park, Don Street, Aberdeen (just off King Street - the main Aberdeen-Peterhead/Fraserburgh Road) so the show will be taking place as planned. The organisers say that this is another excellent venue. Directions to Seaton Park will be sent out to all entrants.

Petcare has advised the Kennel Club that, as part of a strategic review of
its sponsorship commitments, it has been decided no longer to provide
Pedigree sponsorship for Group and General Championship Shows after the end
of the 2007 Calendar.
Whilst it is good to note that Pedigree will still support Shows with their stand, their Breeder Team and through their popular Stakes Classes, the Kennel Club is very conscious that the news about the withdrawal of their sponsorship finance from a significant number of Group and General Championship Shows will be of great concern to the respective Show Committees and to exhibitors.
Therefore, the Kennel Club has offered advisory help and support for the relevant Societies. Meetings with the Chairman, the Chief Executive and relevant members of the Kennel Club team will be set up for those Societies that wish to discuss the issues involved. It is everyone’s wish that the Shows are able to continue to provide excellent facilities and opportunities for the many thousands of exhibitors who compete.
The contribution Pedigree has made to the Show scene, over what is nearly 40 years, cannot go without mention. Grateful thanks and appreciation must be expressed for the company’s past support, together with a strong desire to continue working together to promote dogs and the dog showing world in the future and to making a difference for dogs generally.
Pedigree will continue to maintain its position as Principal Supporter of Crufts and the Kennel Club looks forward to continuing this relationship over the coming years.

A
statement from Derbyshire DAC.
We have received a number of enquiries, comments have been made and questions asked regarding the postponement of our July show to September and I would like to take this opportunity to re-iterate the position.
As the show has been postponed (not cancelled so therefore cannot be re-scheduled) after approval from the Kennel Club, both the schedule and running orders are transferred to the new date in their entirety. The closing date remains unchanged, no further entries will be accepted or grades changed.
The Committee appreciates that some entrants may not be able to attend the September show and therefore consideration will be given to anyone wishing to claim a refund once the total costs for both shows and subsequently the sum of any surplus funds are known. We expect this information to be available at the earliest mid October. Further communication will be made in relation to this once we know where we stand financially. No decisions can be made at this time.
Additional camping places will be available at the new venue and name changes for camping places already booked (and paid for) will be accepted.
Anyone unable to attend and wish to be considered for a refund, or wish to book a camping place or change the name on one already paid for should E Mail full details to Rae Blythe at rae b 23 @ ntl world.com (removing spaces) no later than 31 August 2007.

The postal strike appears to have left a significant number of competitors at this weekend's Midland Counties Show without their ring cards. This is just to let you know that there will be a set of ring cards at the show available, if you need them. Just come to the Secretary's Tent and ask.
The organisers have also had a number of calls from BAA members who had booked to go to one of the shows that has unfortunately been cancelled this weekend asking if they could enter Midland Counties instead. With all the paperwork already done and all the trophies and rosettes sorted, it's not possible at this late stage to change too much. However, BAA members are welcome to come along and run NFC on both days. There is also a pay on the day class on Saturday that they can compete in.
If you do fancy coming along, please note that you must bring your BAA number(s) with you. It would also help if you could drop Paul Sensky an email at paul at baa dot uk dot net so they have an idea of how many extra people/dogs to expect.

SEPTEMBER 2007
Following
the recent Kennel Club press release regarding the European Open in
Germany, I would to express my thanks, as GB Team Manager, for its
continued funding for international competitions.
Whilst the budget from the Kennel Club is very generous, I do feel that Agility should take a lead and start to raise funds for itself. I am, therefore, proposing that Agility people, in particular those wishing to travel abroad, should raise extra funds to supplement our budget, in the hope that we can still send teams to the World Championships and European Championships in future years.
To this end, I have appointed two 'fund raisers' to come up with ideas of how to raise extra revenue for the European Open and beyond. The two people who have taken on this very important task are Marie Douglas and Jill Spurr. They can be contacted on:
If anyone can offer help of any kind, they would like to hear from you.
The selection process has been devised by me as the Manager, for 2008 only, as the time scale is so short. There will, however, be further discussions in the near future regarding the 2009 event.
It may be that not all the places will be filled from the competitions I have selected. If that is the case, I will give consideration to handlers and dogs from a wider base. Therefore, if you wish to be considered please get in touch, but remember the advice in the KC press release regarding the time scale for getting dogs vaccinated and ready for travel next July. You can ring me on 01582 882366 or mobile: 0771 448 1102. My email is faldoagility@aol.com

At this show, the British Agility Association will be running the first Qualifier for the 2008 "British Clever-Dogs" championships. All entrants will if required receive training, a warm up/practice session and three timed runs. Entries will be taken on the day.
The British Agility Association would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in the birth of agility 30 years ago, without whom none of us would be 'where we are at' today.

The news from the organisers of the Lincoln 30th Anniversary show is that KC Vice Chairman Bill Hadaway will be making a presentation at the show and Kenneth Tatsch of the United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA) is flying over from The States to attend presentation. He will also be bringing a film crew to video the weekend show. They will also be doing interviews so if any clubs have any banners to decorate the showground please bring them to display at the show. If not, why not make one and bring it along. Let's show the agility world how much we love agility!
Several early pioneers of agility will be making an appearance on the Saturday as well. Clubs or individuals are encouraged to send cards and/or emails of thanks to them and the Lincoln club that did the first demo because without them we might not be enjoying this sport we all love today. Several emails of congratulations from the USA clubs have already been received. Please send emails to daveroberts_283@fsmail.net
Kenneth Tatsch is bringing with him 240 commemorative t-shirts to give away to helpers at the show and the Lincoln Club will be giving away goodie bags as well as food and drink to helpers over the weekend. More helpers are still needed so if you can give an hour or two of your time, it would be appreciated.
There will also be DDDave’s video quiz on Saturday night with cash and other various prizes. As there will no bar, you bring your own drinks, In addition there is a grand prize draw with lots of prizes. Tickets that will be available on the day to be drawn out at the Quiz night.
Catering van will be there from Friday teatime & on Sunday roast dinners will be available
Hollywood is coming to Lincoln the same weekend as the show. In Lincoln, they will be filming Queen Victoria's wedding with Jim Broadbent and next door to the showground at RAF Scampton they are making a remake of the Dambusters. Show organiser Val Clark has emailed Agilitynet to say that there are 100 runs left at the C-Side Crystal Challenge November Show.
She said, 'I have noticed a drop in number of envelopes through my letterbox recently and this could be due to two things. Folk are either under the impression that our shows are full, owing to my recent misleading message on the Agility Addicts Forum, or they have forgotten that C-Side shows are capped and are leaving it to the last minute to send their entries like they do with Open shows. There are still plenty of runs left in the February and March shows, too.'

After the very successful trial event held after the Crayford Agility Show in July, the Celebration organising group have agreed that next year 2008 the Celebration Gambles will be replaced by a new exciting agility competition called Celebration Connection.
A full set of rules demonstration video's and lots of other useful information can be found at http://www.ward-agilitydogs.me.uk/easter/.
The general idea is to correctly connect three
different jumps with four bonuses in the quickest time or score the highest
amount of points in the allotted time.
Each bonus is worth five and may only be attempted once. Each jump is worth
one point and three must be jumped correctly to gain a bonus so a maximum
score of 32 is achievable.

The
Derbyshire Dog Agility Club Committee has decided to postpone their July
2007 show to 21-23 September 2007. There
will also be a change of venue in order to minimise the risk of further
cancellation.
The new venue is the disused airfield at Melton Mowbray, Dalby Road (B6047), nr Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire LE13 0BL. For those travelling to the show, the best route, avoiding Melton Mowbray and major road works, is the A46/A607 from the west and north and south from the M1.
Please retain your running orders, if you have entered, as classes remain the same except for the KC Novice and Pedigree team Qualifiers. These will become non-qualifiers, i.e. G3-5 Comb Agility and an Open Team. No further entries can be excepted as this is not a re-scheduled show. It merely has been postponed to dates within a twelve-week time frame under the old licences.
Due to daylight hours at this time of year, judging on Friday will commence at 12.30pm while on Saturday and Sunday judging will start at 8.00am. The Adams Derby Final will be run Saturday lunchtime after the last qualifying heat in the morning. This will mean that several classes from that ring will be moved into other rings. This will not affect the classes that are first in the rings. Amended ring plans will be available on the day.
There is strictly no camping on Thursday for non-members but it will be available from 8.00am on Friday. Please be patient if you have wait.
Please pass this information onto anyone who was entered into the show.

Clark reports that she is still receiving entries for their C-Side Crystal
Challenge November show and has asked Agilitynet to point out that she has
started returning entries as the capped number (1000 runs excluding C-side
members) has now been reached. As announcements have been previously
made on the C-Side web site and Agility Forum, she would greatly appreciate
if you could tell anyone you know who does not have a computer, as the cost
of returning these entries is starting to mount up.
Also, if you have entered the show and find that you cannot now compete please let Val know. She is happy to refund entries up until a week before the show as she knows that she can fill any place that becomes available. There are several people who opted to pay by bank transfer who have not yet paid. In order not to spoil the payment option method for handlers entering future shows, please could you pay now.
For more information: contact Val Clark, 34 Lansdowne Way, Hailsham, East Sussex, BN27 1LX. Tel. 01323 848906, before 9.00pm please.

Otley
DTS have agreed to refund entry fees from the cancelled July show,
deducting 25% for unrecoverable costs. The club will bear any remaining
costs. If more is recovered from the insurers - still in dispute - it will
be donated to charity.
A work group with sufficient cheque books, envelopes and stamps is ready, but calculating, preparing and sending out several hundred cheques will still take some time, for which further apologies. With this complexity, the Committee would prefer not to try to separate out those wishing their entry fee to go to charity.

After many years of producing the Agility Aid Diaries, June and Paul Richardson have decided the time has come to take a break during the winter months. The Diaries will continue in safe hands, however, as they have transferred them to Kate Austin and Dave Jolly. In future, they will be called the iSS Show Diary. Adverts for ordering the Diary will be appearing in the usual agility press, or can be ordered on-line www.iShowServices.com. Alternatively you can e-mail admin@iShowServices for an order form. Please head your e-mail with ‘Show Diary’.
Show secretaries can ensure their show is included in the Diary by going to www.ishowservices.com, clicking on Show Diary and entering details of their show on there – remember these details are also forwarded to the Eye, the Voice and the Net, so with one stop you can cover everything. Don’t worry if you don’t want to use the web – Kate or Dave will be contacting you, as usual.
June and Paul said, 'We would like to thank all the show secretaries over the years who have helped us to compile the Diary, and everyone who has purchased them and made such nice comments about it. We wish Kate and Dave luck with producing the Diary for you. We’re sure they will do a sterling job and bring fresh ideas to it.'

Ynys
Mon DTC, a small club on the Isle of Anglesey (North Wales), has been
awarded one of the cancelled 2008 KC Olympia ABC heats due to the 'Monsoon'
season! The Committee of Newton Heath DTC, sponsors and organisers of the
ABC competition have decided to hold heats rather than take multiple
reserves from the heats that do take place. They have agreed to let YMDTC
host the qualifier to enable more regional ABC agility enthusiasts
(England, Wales and Ireland) the opportunity to compete in this prestigious
competition. The show will be held on Saturday, 29 March 2008.
YMDTC is one of the few KC registered dog clubs in North Wales. It holds an agility show in March and a Heelwork to Music show in August.
Mavis Sherwin said, 'The Island has lots of wonderful beaches, coastal walks - all dog friendly. Anglesey has lots of camping and B&B facilities which are open all year and it is certainly worth making the weekend in March a long one to make the most of your visit.'
The Kennel Club Olympia ABC Agility Stakes is a special agility competition to be run under Kennel Club Rules and Regulations H for all Large dogs, Grades 1-7, with the exception of Border Collies, Working Sheepdogs and their crosses.
The schedule is available on Agilitynet now.
The ABC qualifying heats below supersede any which have previously been circulated.
