Win a holiday at beautiful Bowerland Farm

Bowerland Holiday Cottages

The Winning Entry
By
Angie Miles & Alice

I have had the pleasure of roughly ten years holidays at Bowerland with my late husband, and my, now late, lady lab Violet. She had her last holiday at the farm last November, a couple of weeks before she lost her sight completely.

I thought my halcyon days in Devon were completely over, but now - at the age of 65 - a new little lab girl named Alice, now 8 months old, has come into my life. You can see I have called her a new little girl, not a replacement, a name I so hate when you have lost a dear animal.

So 2011 will see the first holiday for me and Alice. I know she is going to love every minute of it especially the log fire at the end of wonderful, exploring days. I know I am.

Angie & Alice's Visit
July 2011

My name is Angie Miles.  I am 66 years of age and have a 16 month old chocolate Labrador named Alice.  Ovre the past 10 years, I have happily holidayed at Bowerland Cottages many times with my late husband and old pooch. When the previous owners moved on, I thought that Bowerland Cottages was going to be the end of an era, but no. I entered a competition set up by the new owners on their new website, and was highly delighted to be informed that I had won first prize.  I have just returned from spending a lovely week in the Old Dairy with my pal Janet, and of course, Alice.  They say you should never go back, but oh no, that is so not so!

We arrived on the Saturday afternoon to a warm welcome by Carole and Alan Langman.  The accommodation is superb.  I particularly like the Old Dairy for the enclosed garden and the delightful conservatory - wonderful if you are human, but doubly appealing if you have four legs! Lots of doggie throws and towels were provided for wet pets and the conservatory makes a first class bedroom.  Alice certainly woke up early with the birdsong which suited us fine. We were able to get out for early walkies as the surrounding countryside in literally on your doorstep.  Back to the 'digs' for breakfast and a read of the papers in the wonderful garden.

We had some great doggy days out - all very close which meant that we did not have to spend loads of time in the car.  Bude and Instow are a must with great dog friendly beaches.  There were fab walks over the moors, and we loved walking along the Granite Way.  Everyone around seems to be dog-kind and the local pubs welcome the dogs. They usually provide a treat, too!  Then it was back home - yes, I said 'home' - to Bowerland Cottages to enjoy a relaxing evening and a last little walk before settling down in the dreamy cottage.

We had a fab week, and would recommend anyone with a dog to try out Bowerland’s friendly place. Nothing was too much trouble, and the owners do not impose, which I really appreciate after an awful experience with interfering owners at another venue once. Carole and Alan are great. They are simply there if you want them. I felt totally relaxed.

Carole and Alan, thank you so much for making me realise that Bowerland Cottages will always be there. I wish you and your family all the best, and keep up the good work. If you doubt what I say, ask Alice. She had a ball!

We will see you again next year.

Competition Winners Announced

Congratulations to the three lucky winners of the Agilitynet Bowerland 'Dog friendly' Cottage Holiday breaks in glorious Dartmoor.

To launch the opening of Bowerland Cottage Holidays (), its new owners, Carole, Alan, and Lauren Langman, held a competition on Agilitynet to win a free break for one lucky winner, and discount vouchers for the two runners-up. Entrants had to explain why they’d like a break at Bowerland.

Carole Langman commented, 'We had so many entries, from the amusing to the heartbreaking and everything in between. It was tremendously hard to pick the winners. Angie Mills was in 1st place with her eight month old Lab, Alice. '

A delighted Angie comments, 'Oh my goodness, oh my goodness ... I can't believe it! Thank you so much. Have just this evening returned home from a five day bus trip in Cornwall and passed Bowerland on the A30. I blew you a kiss. It must have been a magic one to come home to such wonderful news.'

First runners-up are Anne Copley and her partner Sue who win a £100 Bowerland voucher while Tracy Bennett and her dogs Seren, Buffy and Toby came in 3rd place with a very entertaining poem. They win a £50 Bowerland voucher.

Bowerland, which the Langman Family found with the help of the TV programme Relocation, Relocation (screened on Thursday, 13 January, on Channel 4, at 8pm) offers two dog-friendly, self-catering cottages, great walks from right outside the door and a full arena of agility equipment. Lessons are also available from Lauren Langman who runs the highly successful agility training club, Devon Dogs.

The Competition

The Langman family is offering you the opportunity to win a free weeks break at Bowerlands Farm. Interestingly, they found the cottages whilst taking part in the TV programme Relocation, Relocation and they decided it would be a perfect place for dog friendly holidays where you could combine a rustic holiday with top class agility instruction and excellent facilities allowing you and your dog to have a lovely holiday.

Bowerland is a classic example of that fast-disappearing phenomenon - the Devonshire farm courtyard. Superbly located on an area of outstanding natural beauty, it offers character, warmth and a wealth of opportunities for dog lovers including a large paddock and an fab bridleways for dog walking. For more about the farm and the surrounding area, you can look at the information on the website.

To win a weeks stay at one of the two superbly fitted, self-catering cottages - The Hayloft or the Old Dairy, just write a paragraph or two, describing why you would like to stay at Bowerlands with your dog.

1st prize is a weeks stay at Bowerlands Farm to be booked by August 2011.
2nd prize is £100 off a stay at Bowerlands
