Encouraging young handlers of the future

The Young Kennel Club (YKC) goes from strength to strength with membership increasing and more activities becoming available to members. It exists to prepare young people for becoming responsible dog owners of the future and to provide a pool of trained and motivated young people who will themselves inherit the sport in the years to come.

YKC Agility & Jumping Certificates

The Kennel Club would like to remind its members that, at a meeting held on 19 December 2006, the Young Kennel Club Committee approved the following amendment to the qualification dates of the YKC Agility and Jumping certificates.

Certificates are issued to members whose dogs achieve a placed clear round in any agility or jumping class held at a Kennel Club licensed event. All members who have achieved an agility or jumping certificate within the qualifying period are then invited to take place in the Birmingham Agility Final or Jumping Semi Final each year.

The qualification period dates have been amended to the below:

1 July 2006 until 31 May 2007

Any member who has achieved an agility or jumping certificate during this period will be invited to the Birmingham Agility Final and/or Jumping Semi Final in 2007.

From thereon the qualification year will run each consequent year from:

1 June until 31 May

Members aged 18 years and over are now no longer eligible to take part in the Birmingham Agility Final or Jumping Semi Final so will not be able to apply for certificates.

Members aged 18 years and above will now be able to take part in the Senior Agility competition. In order to enter, you must collect points at all agility shows, including junior classes in an Agility Record Book.
