Giving your dog the winning edge

The Judge's Report
from Gerry Eckersley

This was a well supported Final with spectators from the general public and as well as agility competitors. The weather was near perfect for agility, much cooler than the day before but still fine.

The Warm Up Event gave the competitors the chance to run their dogs before the main event to get an idea of what was to come. The winners were:-

Although both courses ad control points and speed sections, with a degree of difficulty for both dog and handler, the Final courses more difficult than the Warm Up but aimed at a good Novice standard.

It was a very tightly contested Final with less than a second separating the first five. The eventual winner was Andy Sandercock with Gemthorne Free Spirit, making tighter turns in the control section and just having the edge over the second place Dawn Weaver with Slinky Minky of Mo.

In both the Warm Up Event and the Final, all the dogs and handlers put on a superb display of control and enjoyment with dogs. They were fine representatives and a credit to our sport. I thoroughly enjoyed judging them all. Well done to everyone who qualified for the Final with special congratulations to all the winners.

Thank you
Thank you to Genesis for the invitation to judge the inaugural final and to Sandy and Brian Wadhams for their sponsorship of this event. Thanks too to RVA for the excellent ring party and for hosting the event.

The Genesis Final 2006

The final of the Genesis Performance Novice Jumping Tournament was held at East of England Showground on Sunday, 18 June 2006, hosted by Ely DTC and RVA and judged by Gerry Eckersley. The weather had cooled considerably from the day before – much more comfortable for competitors and dogs. 39 dogs and competitors declared their intention to run having qualified at various events around the country. Genesis was represented on the day by Lesley Pugh who arrived early  to set up the wonderful array of crystal and rosettes ready for the presentation

Andy Sandercock, having qualified at Thames, took an early lead with his dog Gemthorne Free spirit, finishing in a blistering time of 26.635 – a hard act to follow. Dawn Weaver with her beardie Silver Cascade, who had previously won the preliminary warm up run, put up a superb time of  27.007  but with an unfortunate ten faults. Her second attempt with Slinky Minky of Mo was more successful, finishing clear in a time of 26.803 resulting in runner up position.

Thank you
A special mention to the members of RVA DTC for their part in keeping the proceedings on an even keel. They worked tirelessly all weekend and still continued in the finals ring on the Sunday afternoon – you’re a great team.

Many thanks to Genesis for their sponsorship of this tournament and their continued support of our sport. We look forward to another successful year.

Genesis Performance Novice Jumping Tournament Clarification

Genesis Pet Foods and the organisers of the Genesis Performance Novice Jumping Tournament would like to clarify and apologise for any misunderstanding from an error in the wording of the rules sent to secretaries at the end of last year.

Following are the rules as they SHOULD be.

The event will be run on the following lines:

This class will be classified as Novice and judged under the Kennel Club rules for large dog classes. Handlers may enter more than one dog in a heat and may qualify more than one dog for the final. Once a dog has qualified for the final, further heats may be entered for competition, but a dog may only qualify once in any year for the final. The first three places from each heat will be invited to compete in the finals. It is most important that handlers who gain a place in a heat with a previously qualified dog should inform the Show Secretary on the day of the show of this fact.

Secretaries of those shows with qualifiers will be notified officially shortly.

For this year only, there will be two sets of qualifiers from Thames DTC and the RVA shows.

Dogs that qualified at Thames DTC last year and the RVA show last year as well as all the other qualifying 2005 shows along with those who qualify at Thames DTC and RVA's show this year will be invited to compete at the final at 2006 RVA show.

The rule on qualifying only once still applies, so if you qualified at Thames DTC 2005 or RVA 2005 you can enter the classes at their 2006 shows, but should you win, come second or third, you will not qualify 'again' for the final in 2006.

Letters inviting those who qualified for the 2005/6 final will be despatched shortly.

The Qualifiers for the 2005-20066 final are as follows:-

Genesis Heats Agreed

All the heats for the Genesis Novice Jumping Tournament have now been filled.

Sandy Wadhams of Genesis said ' We've been inundated with emails from clubs offering to host a heat. I am still awaiting confirmation from the sixth  club as to their new venue, but if this does not materialise then I already have a club to take that slot.'

New Competition for Novice Dogs
