Welcome Back to Gina Pears LL2 Administrator

Gina's LurchersI'm Gina Pears and I actually started the original Lurcher League many years ago but had to give up agility for a few years so Paula very kindly carried it on. I'm really pleased to be organising the League once again.

A little about me
I have been bonkers about Lurchers and Sighthounds since I rescued my first Lurcher from the then NCDL when I was 14 yrs old. I have owned/ rescued Lurchers ever since. I love their variety of shape, colour, coat type, size and personality.

I own five dogs - an elderly deaf Lurcher (Lulu), two young Lurchers (Zak and Twiggy), with whom I currently compete at agility. I also have two Italian Greyhounds (not rescued) - one is elderly and blind (Gucci) and the other is only young and has recently started his agility training (Enzo). I have also fostered several Lurchers and Greyhounds over the years. I train at Wilmslow DTC.

My only concern is the lack of time as I am a single mum, working full time, with five dogs - so please bear with me! I also don't have time to attend as many shows as I would like, but I am hoping to meet members at the few I do go to.

Some ideas for 2013
Not much will change. It will be open to pedigree Sighthounds and Italian Greyhounds, too, Maybe these will have their own separate competition. That way everyone can join in!

I am in the process of organising a website and I thought I would do quarterly updates of points in a newsletter-type format maybe, giving everyone plenty of time to send me their points. I also thought that members only need to pay their membership fee once they gain points, giving all Lurcher handlers a chance to be involved, even if the elusive clear hasn't happened yet!

I have considered raising the fee to £5 with £1 donation towards a Lurcher charity such as Lurcher Link? What are your feelings about that?

I would love to hear all about your Lurchers/Sighthounds/Iggys. How you got them, how they're bred or if they were rescued. Do they do other activities like flyball, racing and obedience etc?

All information can be shared with fellow members along with lots of photos including pics of new members so they can be recognised at the shows This was a suggestion from a member - thank you!

Other things could include photos of proud wins or maybe embarrassing stories to share! as well as Lurchers that could excel at agility that currently needing homes. In fact, send me anything that other Lurcher owners would like to hear. They are such versatile dogs and this should be shared with others!

So for now could I ask members to let me know of any ideas they would like to suggest for the League and, whether you would like any alterations to the points/rules etc? Meanwhile please spread the word at the shows!!

Good luck to all members in 2013 and I'm looking forward to hearing about your dogs and listening to your ideas. I will contact everyone when everything is finalised.

End of Year Report

The final results for 2012 LL2 are below. Well done to everyone who took part. Can the winners and runners Up from Grades 3, 4, 5, 6 and Rescue, please contact Paula Trigg to give their current full postal address for awards to be sent, or to arrange collection from a future show, e.g, Wilmslow, Adams.

Sadly the LL2 web site can no longer be updated as Piczo is closing it. It can still be viewed at the moment but no one is sure how long that will last.

On a positive note, seven of our members have won up Grades, one of whom went from G3 to G6 in just a year and is crowned as our 2012 LL2 Champion so a big congratulations to Lesley Short with Brimstone & Fire.

This year there were fewer members of the League as some people have retired their dogs or retired from Agility themselves, but happily there are some new young dogs just out so we can look forward to them joining the League and watch their progress with great interest.

From 2013 The Lurcher League will be run by Gina Pears. Please contact her for membership.

All that remains is to wish you a happy new year and look forward to seeing you at shows soon.
