Incredible agility...

As dog agility continues growing so does the popularity of well-run, high-profile, national agility competitions such as the PRO PLAN® Agility Challenge Series. Run as a series leading up to a Grand Final, the qualifying heats add a spark of extra interest to the regular agility shows held most weekends of the year. This event, held under Kennel Club agility regulations, is for all dogs, heights and grades and consists of three qualifying agility events: Starters Challenge for Grades 1 & 2 Combined; the Novice Challenge for Grades 3, 4 & 5 Combined and the Masters Challenge for Grades 6 & 7 Combined.

The Finals

Excitement is now building towards the PRO PLAN Agility Challenge Final to be held in conjunction with the Bromsgrove DTC Open Agility Show on Saturday, 21 September.

The Challenge Series Co-ordinator Steve Croxford said;  'We have a great line up of handlers and dogs for this year's final which looks like being even more competitive than last year. Looking down the list of finalists, we have some of the best dogs in the country involved in the Masters Challenge across all three heights, including three time FCI World Champion Natasha Wise and Dizzie. There are also some great up and coming partnerships who have qualified in the Starters and Novice categories so it looks like the competition will be really fierce for all of the top places. The Large novice final looks especially competitive.

'Purina PRO PLAN has been supporting agility at all levels for several years and to be able have a finals of this quality is a compliment to their continued involvement with the sport. I should like to thank Judith Nicholson and all her team at Purina PRO PLAN for their help in putting this final together. '

I should also like to thank the Bromsgrove DTC show committee for allowing to hold the event at their show and a special thank you must go to our judge for this year, Gary Murphy, for agreeing to officiate for us and for giving up his time to do so. The main finals will take place from Saturday lunch time onwards and I hope everyone at the show will come along and watch what I expect will be an exciting event.'

Check in and registration for the final will commence at 11:00am. The finals will start from 12:30 with awards being presented at the end of the day from approximately 16:00.

Rules & Regulations

  1. The PRO PLAN® Agility Challenge Series will consist of three qualifying agility events: the Starters Challenge, for Grades 1 & 2 combined; the Novice challenge for Grades 3, 4 & 5 combined; and, the Masters Challenge for Grades 6 & 7 combined.

  2. The Starters, Novice & Masters Challenge heats will be for all heights (Small, Medium & Large) and will be run over an agility course.

  3. The PRO PLAN® Challenge Series (heats and series final) will be judged under the appropriate Kennel Club Rules in force at the

  4. time of the running of the show.

  5. Dogs and handlers must be eligible to enter a class for the Grade 1 or 2 combined (Starters Challenge), for Grade 3, 4 or 5 combined (Novice Challenge), for Grade 6 or 7 (Masters Challenge) at the time of qualifying for the respective final. Any subsequent wins or qualifications gained by the dog or handler will not alter their eligibility to compete in the final for which they have qualified.

  6. Classes for individual heats (e.g. the Novice Agility Challenge) may be split but only on reaching a total entry of 300 dogs.

  7. The first two previously unqualified placed dogs from each heat will go forward to the PRO PLAN® Agility Challenge series finale to be held at Bromsgrove Open Agility Show on Saturday 21st September 2013.

  8. Competitors may enter more than one dog in a series heat. However, a handler may only qualify one dog per height category for each of the Starters, Novice, or Masters Challenge finals.

  9. Handlers may only qualify a dog for either the Starters, Novice or Masters Challenge. Once qualified for one of the finals a dog will only be eligible for that final. Subsequent places in other heats will not count.

  10. Handlers who achieve a place in a challenge series heat with a previously qualified dog should inform the Show Secretary of this fact at the time of the show in order that handlers of eligible dogs may be called in as reserves.

  11. Once a dog has qualified for the final further heats may be entered for competition; results in these further heats will not affect the dog's eligibility for the final for which they have already qualified.

The organisers reserve the right to withhold an invitation to the final.
