In a nutshell: A smooth, serious and intelligent
dog that makes a great friend
Description:
A Rough Collie
without a coat but, if anything, more active. Medium-sized, smooth-coated dog of elegant
lines with a flowing, ground covering action. Long legs and long nose.
Temperament:
Gay and friendly. Great companions. They make good PAT dogs, too.
Advantages as an agility dog:
-
They always do their best
-
Usually clear
-
Not as fixated as a BC so possibly easier to handle
Disadvantages as an agility dog:
-
Not as speedy nor mad as Border Collies
-
Often clear even if over time
-
Dislikes being 'worked up' and barking in the queue
-
Not suited to repetitive training. Twice over a course
and they are bored!
-
Sometimes they cut corners rather than listen!
Rating
out of 10: 5-7/10. To be honest, they are only a specialist
breed. May not be as fast as a BC but easier to live with!
Examples of dogs that have done
well in agility: The Starkeys have done well with their Smooth
Coats.
What's it like to live with as
a pet: Really great. Even with a limited time for training and
shows, they are great fun. They are good all-round companions. \Very adaptable.
