Dog Vegas Grade 3-5 Finals 2011With all the rings for the day finished, the entertainment for the night was ready to begin. It was the Grade 3-5 Small/Medium final with Kevin Lampitt judging. The Dog Vegas team was ready to get the ring moving. The spectators settled in and the drinks were flowing. The handlers were ready to begin. The Smalls were drawn to run first so it was Karen Miaskowski on the line with Spirit of Surprise. They started the final off with 10f. The first clear round went to Selena Bray with Shanandi One & Only, fourth to run. They completed a stunning round in a very fast time of 36.609 seconds. This was definitely a round to put pressure on the other finalists. With an array of steadier clears, 5 and 10 faults rounds and a couple of eliminations, it was time for the Mediums to rise to the challenge that Selena had set. The first Medium to go clear was Leah Bray - keeping it in the family - but with a slower time of 50.781 seconds. After a couple of 5 fault rounds, it was Linda Cummings on the line with her stunning Urban Myth No Worries, If this combination goes clear, then there are few that can beat them on time. Well, they did manage to go clear and with a cracking time of 33.762 seconds which did prove to be unbeatable. Well done to Linda on winning the Small / Medium final, and well done to all of the finalists for qualifying for this year's final. The final results were:-
Next came the Large dogs with Kevin Lampitt judging. First on the line was Heidi Windheuser with the first of two runs with Rajjinka High Flyer, a three year old Border Collie. Unfortunately they were unfortunately eliminated. Heidi picked up 5 faults with her other dog, a six year old Kelpie, Morgans Red Kite. Second on the line was 17 year old Martin Read with Went with a Flash. This dog lived up to his name with a fantastic clear round in a time of 26.848 seconds. Tthis really set the standard from the start as there wasn’t much room to improve on this round. After Jo Hyslop’s 5 faults, Bob Sharpe was 4th to run. He managed a clear round in a respectable time of 29.556 seconds, but it was almost three seconds behind Martin's time. We then had to wait until the 11th combination to run for the first challenge to Martin's run. It came from Amanda Ellerton with three year old Border Collie, Dragondaze Into Gear. They managed to put in a brilliant performance to shave nearly 2/10ths of a second of Martin’s time with a clear round in a time of 26.664. Was this going to be the winning round? Amanda has had a brilliant year with this dog that has just moved up to grade 6, so she was going to take some beating. Jess Cothay with her Border Collie, Fuzzy Logic took their turn to try and take the leading time, but they weren’t quite fast enough. They ended up with a clear round in 27.09 seconds– a great effort, but not quite there. The only other clear that was close, was Naomi Hall, running 25th with Hainan’s Racy Red Slinky Minx. They had a clear round in 28.606 which would eventually take the 4th place rosette home - pretty good as it is only Naomi’s second year competing. She is definitely one to watch for the future, I think. So it was Amanda Ellerton’s night, a bottle of bubbly or two would be drunk no doubt. The final results were:-
